Or TV tax as it should be called.

Why on earth should anyone be forced by the goverment to pay to watch broadcasted video.

I do not like the BBC and already pay to watch programmes I do like, although I will be only watching DVDs soon.

Many people could save a lot of money without this vile tax.

Update: As I would like to not carry this on and on with pointless replys, I have added a poll. A vote will be a fair solution.

I respect everyones opinion and thank everyone who will take part.

    Agreed.

With services like Netflix I'm never going to pay for a TV Licence as I don't watch TV.

Won't be an issue for us north of the border following independence - however for those less fortunate, as the Receiving Licence has been in place since the 1920's (and coming up to its centenary), the way forward is to lobby your MP. That's what s/he is there for.

Oh yes, I'd love to see more lowest-common-denominator programmes and 20mins of adverts per hour.

The licence fee is very cheap because everyone pays it, and we can get programmes that appeal to smaller audience groups, not just the mass appeal stuff.

Don't forget the BBC also funds lots of radio stations and a massively popular website.

The BBC is also using the licence fee to help plug a hole is the pensions of its employee's something we shouldn't be responsible for.

David Attenborough and Radio 4 is worth the license fee on it's own.........

The BBC make some amazing programmes and it's a training ground for producers, directors and writers who go on to do great things elsewhere.

If you don't want to pay your TV license then don't.....I'm happy to pay for it.

  • Ban it! The BBC is a government soundboard, full of corruption and controversy. We don't pay a fee on the independent channels, why should we pay to watch the 1 or 2 programmes we actually watch on BBC1?
  • If there are 4 people in your household, it's 10p a day each.

Count up how many times you get radio, TV or web entertainment or information and tell me if it's worth it.

It's an optional tax. Just dump your TV.

I'm not saying it should be scrapped completely, but surely if there are programmes for smaller audience groups, then the Beeb could allow a small amount (say 2-3 minutes per hour) of heavily targeted sponsorship for its programmes.

Remember also that the licensing for some BBC programmes worldwide is huge.

Top Gear makes the Beeb some £40m a year in profit on its own, if I remember rightly.

  • For thoes who enjoy the BBC and do not mind paying it, let them carry on. Make the BBC a subscription channel just like others.

But why should a large portion of the population pay for something they do not want.
