Why should the public pay for their pensions?

I have to pay for my own.

Why shouldn't BBC employees do the same?
Employers pay into any decent workplace pension (on top of employees contributions), and that has to come from the profits. So you're also paying into pensions for people who work in banks, supermarkets, insurance companies.......

And I have 2 such preserved pensions.

As such, I'd never have a problem with part of the licence fee going into the pension pot.

In normal cases, to the tune of 1% of your take home pay.

The issue for the BBC is that they presided over the accumulation of a £2bn deficit in their pension fund. Mark Thompson estimated that to preserve pension rights would have required up to 10% of the licence fee.

They cut pension benefits to restore some balance to it.

Can't imagine 1/3rd of people think it is worth paying
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Unfortunately, as the law currently stands, a TV Licence is required to watch/record ANY live broadcasts.

    There's always catch up though.

And theres the problem. Why should people who won't pay the fee be able to watch catch up TV?

Make it subscription only. Won't pay your licence? Quit sponging off my fee.

Why did dog licences go? Wasn't it because it was too difficult to police? Even car tax is 'going' as not being exhibited. Maybe we should go back to window tax if we are that desperate to fund things outside of the general taxation.

Because that is what the law currently allows.

If Parliament felt it was a problem, they'd change the law.
