Yes I could live on £71.

I remember when JSA was around £50 a week, and I survived on it!

I could weep really. Before he was stupid and ended up in prison (5 months) he was a trainee manager at a supermarket and going places as it were.

I know there are people that would like my brother to suffer forever but it has been his only offence and has not been in trouble for ten years. I keep suggesting that he needs to start up his own business - and he has said he would love his own coffee shop - but how does one get the funds for that?

Agree I would very much like to start my own business as well!

I remember getting £35 a week for that government training programme that they put NEETS on (or used to) that I cant remember the name of. I survived on that too but its only that - survival. Theres no quality of life involved. Which is fair enough really - you want something other than the essentials, one needs to earn it.

I have a friend who did a placement like this (recycled furniture to help claimants), he got a pretty decent well paid job from the company running the place in the end.

    ...just saying.

Yes but for who might, lots do not. Its like when the wp boasts how many they have got into work, they dont say how ,any they dont.

Irrelevant really, one could default on those and wipe them out, and be left with just their benefits.

We are talking about whether those who choose not to seek work are living in poverty. They are not.

The key word is poverty, true poverty, not economic inequality.

A default wont wipe them out. It will still be there and then you have bad credit and still the bills.
