Banks should have been left to fail.0 -
Are you asserting that those who choose to live on benefits are living in poverty? ...
See the thing is I don't know anyone personally who CHOOSE to live on benefits.
I would say I am in poverty somewhat. No heating here. But then again if I had a job I still have no central heating but could afford an electric fan heater.
I spend no money at all on anything other than bills and not bought myself anything other than cheap toiletries since I lot my job. Not celebrated Xmas or b.days or gone out with friends or anything. Not a nice 'life'We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
With that attitude there is no chance. For those who grasp every opportunity with both hands instead of whinging like an opportunity is an obstacle, you may not get a job at the end of it, but you may find yourself in pole position for any upcoming vacancy and earn glowing reference to boot.
Alot of workfare is in charity shops, they are mostly run by volunteers. They also have people in there who have been told by the courts to do community payback. Workfare is not about getting people into jobs at all.:footie:0 -

So the answer is no.0 -
So having no money for heating and food is not poverty?
Are people dying from lack of food or lack of heat? The 'eat of heat' is largely nonsense, what it really means is 'I can't eat what I want and heat how much I want'. Want and need are not the same. If you need for something you are in poverty, if you just want for something you are not.0 -
Between 810 and 1,350 Londoners died in 2012/13 because their homes were too cold.
So yes, people are dying from lack of heat. Some of these will be pensioners of course, but not all. Fuel poverty is real, and it does kill people, including the unemployed (which I am sure you probably aren't that concerned about anyway, Denning)

You need to look up the definition of Poverty.
You're talking about absolute poverty / destitution.0
