Just got a letter from Learn Direct Employability in the post provided by Job Centre, I start a work placement on 18.02.2014 at Open Door furniture Recycling, Burnley at 9.30am!

I have no idea why I have been put on this, I already did a placement with them a few years ago. also it states on the letter that if I don't attended then I will get my Job seekers stopped/sanctioned as its mandatory.

Will I be able to refuse doing this if I tell my advisor on Friday when I sign on since I already did a placement with them a few years ago?

I don't mind another work placement but don't fancy working for Open Door again plus its on my CV.:(

I wouldn't think you can refuse, as you have to go where they tell you.

The JCP are probably getting their own back for the TShirt saga....

    Lin ;)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

No, you can't refuse. The reason why is up there in red.
  • How long is the placement for? What will you be doing?

Personally, I would suggest not wearing the T-shirt. This is a work placement and it isn't appropriate work wear.

Have you seen this site boycott workfare some interesting stuff. They campaign against workfare and they name and shame companies who use it. There is stuff on there about you rights too.

its about time all this slave labour was abolished. It does nothing to help people into jobs its pointless.

What makes it worse is that Open Door Recycling sounds like a voluntary organisation anyway.

Surely they would want people there that actually wish to volunteer for them??!!!

Im struggling to comprehend why this needs a thread all of its own.
The letter has made it clear if you dont attend your benefits will be stopped. You sign on on Friday and you could ask your adviser at that point whether they think your benefits might or might not be stopped.

Or you could ask them to place you elsewhere if youve already done a placement with this company.
