Im struggling to comprehend why this needs a thread all of its own.
Because the OP likes to create threads for everything, I think he gets a sense of importance from them!
OP, I think you should go, and if you don't they should stop your benefits, you have been unemployed for far too long! By going you are learning to work with others, will gain good communication skills, and also it's good to ensure you arrive on time daily - fantastic practice for when you eventually find a real job in the real world!
According to the website...

Training / Opportunities Training & work opportunities
Through New Deal, we provide work experience and vocational training for people aged 18-24 and 25+, who are currently long term unemployed.
We provide vocational training towards an NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing and Distribution, Electrical and Electronics Servicing and Administration.
We provide basic learning skills, and help with job search, CV’s and job applications.
Volunteering opportunities
Open Door Furniture Recycling welcomes the contribution of volunteers.
How you can help?
We need people who can offer time on a regular basis to:
• Drive our furniture van (Must be over 25)
• Help with furniture delivery and collections
• Test and repair electrical appliances (training given)
• Help with the maintenance of the premises (odd job’s)
• Help with administration and or finance.
The fact you worked for them previously really does show you need extra help to gain employment - And was this the place you were at last time in which they said you should not wear your gay t-shirt?
Please think of it as good experience.0 -

I don't see the problem- You have free time and they need volunteers. You need recent experience of working, they can give you that experience.0

No, it wasn't this place. the place where I got told to remove my gay t-shirt was at British Heart Foundation.0 -

I used to volunteer with the red cross and the young people who volunteered with them through the job centre were given the option of studying for an NVQ in retail. Some charities actually want to help people progress.0 -

What has it got to do with you?
Do you have references from the placements tooWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
What has it got to do with you?
AND this is the attitude that won't get you a job! :rotfl:Maybe they are trying to find out how many to see either if you have learnt anything from them or have they been a help etc.
Do you have references from the placements too
Exactly!0 -
I'd say after 3 years unemployed you need all the help & experience you can get, cos so far it seems to me that all you've learned in those 3 years is how to be a jerk & how to p people off enough to kick you out the door.
You're doing a cracking job at proving this government right that some people truly do want something for nothing - something the genuine among us have been doing an excellent job at proving wrong. Problem is all your "hard work" is completely destroying all of ours.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0
