I think for that price, the privacy might be really good, especially if it means OH could stay with you as I don't think they can on the ward.

Yeah it was a bit stressful but hey, another appt ticked off and another week closer. I guess I can say I'm third trimester now :eek::eek:

Also discussed private rooms with OH this evening which I'd not considered. They like to keep you in overnight and he thinks I might be able to get more rest if I have one, so we've agreed to think about it at the time depending on how I feel and how busy the unit is. They are £75-100 per night. Anyone else thought about it?

Our hospital doesn't allow partners to stay overnight unless you pay for a private room, so it's on our list. Friends have also recommended it. We also live a half hour drive from the hospital, but luckily have a work colleague who lives very close to the hospital, who has said to OH that he can crash there at any point, which is very kind of her. From what I've heard, you'd be lucky to get any sleep at all on the postnatal ward! And anyway, it's as much his child as mine, so why should he be kicked out on the first night?

Our unit doesn't do tours - they have a 'video tour' online which is totally useless, so I guess we'll just have to figure it all out when we get there...

Arbrighton, that all sounds like it's been rather stressful :( Both my 28 and 31 week appointments were/are with my GP, so I'm not seeing the community midwife until 34 weeks, and that will be the first time I've seen her since the booking appointment! Frankly, I'm perfectly comfortable with the midwives at the hospital, but I just go wherever I'm told to go...

I'm constantly fascinated by how much of this stuff varies depending on where you are in the country - seems a bit mad really!

I think I'm just frustrated that they don't know themselves how to 'knit' it all together with the scheduled growth scans etc so we're just bumbling along and making it up.

Oh and our hospital website seems to suggest 'amenity' rooms are available for a charge.

But it is also allowed to choose one adult to stay/ support over night apparently. Must ask about that

And figure out the plan for the dogs at that point

I've kept reading but haven't had chance to post.
Thank you for everyones feedback re the nct courses with partners ect. It helps to be a bit mentally prepared that everyone may have a partner with them. The second week if everyone has, I may see if my mum wants to come with me as DH will be away on a stag do that weekend.
Our hospital do a virtual tour online also, which is handy to of seen although would be nice to physically see the ward, I appreciate why they aren't able to though. 28week appt on friday and then off on a hen do all weekend, I shall be a walking posh bump at aintree haha!!
Clara - fingers crossed for you!

I had a private room due to the nature of my delivery (ie didn't have to pay) and it was amazing, I definitely would have paid for it! OH still couldn't stay though unfortunately.

New re: classes there was 2 others who went on their own and no one batted an eye lid, they were as much included as everyone else. Also this weekend, one of the partners won't be there, so I really wouldn't give it to much thought.

We are the same, no ward tour, but their is a virtual one. We had a new CMU open/reopen back in January so I know the options for the likes of waterbirth etc are now back on the plate. I didn't even think that there may be private rooms, but something I will definitely investigate. I don't think I would want my OH turfed out if I were to be kept in overnight.

    Clara fingers crossed for today.

Still trying to work on everything we need to get/do before baby is here but right now it just seems to be about finding time. Anyone else seem to not have time to do things at the minute? A full weekend of NCT classes this weekend which means nothing will get done. Hopefully with being off Friday, I can get the food shopping/food prep done as well as some cleaning.

I'm just glad we have a run of three weekends where we're both home, including the long easter weekend, so we'll get some of something done. Although we may need to add in going to dog training as new one doesn't seem to know many commands and other one is choosy about when she obeys (usually only if new one is being offered a treat!)

My parents are coming down today as extra pairs of hands in the garden. I don't necessarily get a lot done in between coffee and lunch making but they do get more than I do at the moment.

Bean was ever so busy last night. And I did my hypnobirthing relaxation track after not managing while we were away- shame my feet decided to be twitchy

Wow didn't realise we were so lucky to be able to look around our maternity unit! I found it really helpful. Just silly things like them showing you where you can make a brew, you can ask for toast, if it's after 9pm you need to go into the hospital via A&E. Also they explained that they get the resuss trolley out for all deliveries and switch it on- so not to panic if you see it/ hear it coming on as that's normal. The delivery rooms were also much bigger than I expected and I felt reassured by how quiet it was with plenty of staff (at least 3 of the delivery rooms were empty, and it looked like there were only 2 women in the postnatal ward)

There is only one private room that allows partners at my unit, and it is £200 a night, and can only be used for complication free deliveries as it is the furthest away from the nurse station. The rest of the ward kicks partners out between 11pm and 9am. Also rooms can't be booked in advance, so it is unlikely that we'd get that one (I don't know anyone who has seen inside it as it has been busy on everyone's tours), plus if we were suitable we'd likely only be in one night anyway so I'd probably just get on with it. OH seems more upset at not being able to stay, but I suspect I will be past caring. Plus he will need to go home to feed the cat etc.

Struggled with a new symptom last night- really itchy boobs! They've been like it for a few days but last night it was actually painful. Made me panic a bit about pain during bfing.

I definitely sympathise with the busy weekends! I can't remember the last quiet weekend we had. This week we have a wedding and meeting up with my parents for my birthday. But after that we don't have much booked in and are very much looking forward to the long Easter weekend with only a family meal booked that weekend. I think OH is shattered and in need of some annual leave but wants to save it for after bump appears, hopefully the bank holidays will help him.

Yeah most of ours now seem to be booked up, since we're at 2 weddings, I'm at the hen for one of those and then we have antenatal class as a day on one saturday, breastfeeding class on one sunday and we're away for a week in may which covers two weekends too.

Need to get OH to use some annual leave, especially as he has the option to buy more and we can afford it as there is so much to do around here and I can't do a lot before I get too tired to be much use :/
