Awww thanks for all these messages! It's quite surreal having been on quite a journey with some of you.

We got home late afternoon yesterday, baby had some extra checks due to size but she seems super hungry and alert just very small! We'll have a check in in about 6 weeks just to make sure development is all fine, but me and my sister were both pretty small so I'm confident all will be well.

At least one of you will definitely like the name, we ended up going with what was top of our list when we started TTC...So she's Clara Grace "surname" :-)

So glad you are home Cats and that all appears well! Enjoy bonding with your wee family xx

I may be biased but Clara Grace is a beautiful name!

We are still struggling on the name front for boy and girl as a few have been pinched along the way :rotfl:

DH has an unexpected day off today which is lovely and the weather is to be nice for a change so hoping to get out and about and spend some time together :j
  • Beautiful name cats! Best of luck with it all and do let us know how you're getting one. If you choose to go to the "new baby" thread (although haven't seen it for a while- maybe experiencing a dip in popularity!) then I will be lurking...

Just back from midwife and the baby has turned head down! (Been diagonal for a while with head on the right near the top of the uterus, feet on the left near pubic bone) So I reckon and the midwife agrees that that explains the pressure / period pains I experienced yesterday. Good news! Now let's hope he or she gets super comfy in the new position but not so comfy that arrival is delayed!

Heartbeat and measurements were all fine and the midwife is getting really booked up so I'm now scheduled in for my next appointments at 30, 33 and 35 weeks.

Great start to the day so I'm hoping today will be a good one!

Enjoy your day with your OH clara!

Aww Cats, that's such lovely name. Glad you and Clara Grace are home and well. Enjoy the next wee while with her :)

Snow I did wonder if there was a new baby thread, I've never seen one but it would be nice to have one for folk to update people on how they are getting on. As Cats mentioned it is quite a journey you go on with others on the forum. Glad your appt went well Snow, good to hear that baby has hopefully settled into the preferred position.

Finally listened to the relaxation track last night, almost fell asleep so it's definitely a good one to keep on repeat. Looks like I won't be doing Hypnobirthing after all, my PT won't be taking on any clients for this for the next so many months :) but has said she will be there if I want to meet for coffee to clarify bits and pieces. Will get reading the books again and ensure the OH has read the bit on Labour/Birthing.

Clara hope you and the OH have a nice day off together :)

Arbrighton I've been hit with nosebleeds for about 20 weeks now, definitely the most annoying one. I usually get a spat of them, and then they disappear for a week or two before coming back. Hopefully you have a better time with them.

Penguin, how did your class go?

Almost the weekend :) hope everyone is keeping well.
  • Great news Cats, and what a lovely name :) Enjoy your time at home, and do please stick around, whether here on this mysterious other thread - I feel like I know you lot as well as I know any other groups of expectant mothers, if not more so at the moment, so it's lovely to be be able to 'stay in touch' :)

Anaesthetist appointment yesterday was quite positive - he said they would strongly advise against an epidural as there is a reasonably high risk of a puncture in my situation. However, they can do a spinal block if I end up with a cesaerean. But if it's an emergency then they might just have to knock me out entirely - oh yay. Fingers crossed for no emergencies  He also talked through the other options - was quite disparaging about pethedine, which matches with what I've read about it. And was suprisingly positive about hypnobirthing, but did say that it's a 'high-effort' option (I know! All the practise is quite hard to find time for!).

Excellent news re baby turning Snowscreamer - nobody has told me anything about baby position yet, in fact I haven't seen 'my' (community) midwife since the original booking appointment! Next one is with the doctor at 31 weeks, so I might see her (and get some useful information) at 34 weeks, which seems a bit late! Will have had the growth scan to check placenta position by then, which will give me more information in the meantime.

April - the relaxation track is fab isn't it! Mind you, it didn't work for me last night, simply could not get to sleep. Very frustrating, and knackered as a result this morning.

Hope everyone else is well - it's so nice to have people to discuss all these things with! Enjoy your day out Clarabell :)

Bean was 'breech' on the growth scan yesterday but given they have 15 more weeks in there, it's more that it was just noted as much as anything else

Another nosebleed this morning so I was late dropping the dog off- didn't think walking along the road with blood on my face was a good plan. Probably linked to the start of hayfever season and the increase in blood pressure with pregnancy- I got nosebleeds as a kid when I started with hayfever

Tried to fill in my maternity allowance form last night since I am self-employed (albeit extremely low hours). I managed everything apart from the date I registered as SE, which is hiding on my HMRC account- waiting for them to tell me how to check for that one. Can't officially send that in before 26 weeks anyway so, hopefully, when we come back from the family break next week (and collect the new dog on the way back down), I'll have an answer and be able to send that off. I've said I intend to work up to about 3 weeks before due date as one student has exams til then but we'll have to see how it goes. I was pretty scatterbrained last night.

I now need to pack for a couple of nights away for friend's wedding tomorrow- I could drive down tomorrow but I'd be too tired so spreading it out. Bed to myself, telly, long bath tonight. And outfit choices were well JUST THE ONE. So that's easy.

Then back down on sat and repack to follow husband up to scotland for a week with his family, including toddler and newborn nephews. I'm hoping to get a few gentle walks done, spot some wildlife etc and do some nephew cuddling.
  • arbrighton my baby was practically breech (well, diagonal so slightly lopsided breech!) this time last week and midwife confirmed head down this morning at 27+1 so definitely breech is fine at this stage. In fact I don't believe midwifes start worrying about position until the final stretch anyway; something like 36 weeks was when it became an issue I read somewhere? It's nice to know that mine is getting prepared though!!

Our first antenatal class is in 2 weeks; sounds like some of the rest of you have already started yours? Hope you are all enjoying them and finding them useful. I'm looking forward to it; even though I'll have to rush home on those days to ensure I'm on time!

Big congratulations Cats! Hope you're enjoying life at home with baby Clara and she's settling in well. I can't believe she was so tiny - see, she knew she wasn't ready to come out on time!

Firebird, sounds like a positive appointment with the anaesthetist - definitely fingers crossed for no emergencies! - but good to know the options. Interesting that they were positive about hypnobirthing too. We've just done a hypnobirthing course that we didn't intend to, but we met the trainer at a Mothercare event and she just made sense!

The most useful thing for me was to be given all the information (about everything!) and to be confident about the options available and making decisions throughout the birth. I'm less sure about the affirmations and visualisations, but we're practising!

I can't remember who else mentioned it, but we're definitely going to try hard to see the 'due date' as more of a five-week window and stop telling other people the exact date to avoid external (well-meaning) pressure. Also I didn't know that you could refuse to be induced even at 42 weeks; it's worth reading up on the protocol in your area, and risks obviously, if you want to avoid induction. But in our trust you can refuse induction and all they do is monitor you twice a week after 42 weeks, which makes me think it's not that worrying.

Sorry, didn't mean to go on about it! :o But it's good to feel informed and a little bit in control...

Snow, glad that the baby's turned and will hopefully be more comfortable. We had the same at 29 weeks, through I'm measuring a few cm bigger than that, so we'll have to keep an eye on it.

Hope those third trimester symptoms aren't too bad for everyone. My sleeping is messed up, but otherwise I'm trying to enjoy the small things like reading in bed, putting on make up and drinking hot cups of tea, which I'm informed does not happen a lot with a newborn! xx

Only a quick post, but just to say lovely name cats and glad you are all doing well.

Definitely up for a new baby thread, would be helpful for general advice such as feeding and also nice to hear how everyone is getting on as I've found these threads so supportive.

Breastfeeding NCT class was good, much more pragmatic than I expected and definitely not a sales pitch. She did really well to involve the dads too (she got them to teach us the techniques). We did get a bit of a shock last night as one of the couples had her twins on Monday at about 32/33 weeks so definitely seeming more real as any of us could be next. Sounds like they are all doing ok though, but are obviously little.
