  • Manc, how did you get on at the clinic?

I had my first nhs antenatal class today and I'm not going to go back. I found it all a bit impersonal and really busy. It's also not even in the hospital I'll be giving birth in so I can't even get a tour of the birthing suite. I'll just stick with the nct ones - doubt I need both!

It's probably terrible to say this but I am really not enjoying this stage of pregnancy. This baby is so wanted and we tried for ages so I know I shouldnt moan but I am tired, feel like a whale, I'm constantly breathless and I just feel generally rubbish. I also feel really emotional and snappy which is really not like me. Just don't know how I'm going to cope for the next 8 weeks...or 9 or 10 if she's late.

its not terrible pink - a lot of women feel like that. its only since Ive felt my baby kicking that I've liked being pregnant.
my OH thinks its great and wonderful (which to some extent it is) but its all right for them as they aren't the ones with swollen bodies, achy limbs, sleepless nights and heartburn - its not even as if we can drown our sorrows with a bottle of wine!

I keep hoping that she comes a couple of weeks early so I can do 'normal' things like put on a pair of shoes and socks in under 5 minutes or walk like a human not a duck and get out of bed without having to roll lol!
  • Thanks newcook, I enjoyed the middle part of being pregnant and I do love to feel her kicking...just not all night when I'm trying to sleep. My OH is the same as yours and thinks it's amazing. He's always down there talking to her and annoying her! I think maybe I'll feel better once I finish work and don't have to be anywhere...and can take naps!

Also wouldn't mind being a bit early...just not xmas day!

This baby is very wanted but I've barely enjoyed any of this pregnancy as I've from the start it's gone from severe reflux, awful nausea, exhaustion, PGP and mobility issues, feeling uncomfortable and unable to play with or lift my daughter and then other extremely painful and embarrassing pregnancy conditions. I don't even enjoy this baby's movements as they're mostly uncomfortable verging on painful. I wonder if being older affects all this as even though I had some of the same issues before I remember enjoying the pregnancy a lot more. I also know what to expect from labour and recovering from it so even though I hope it happens soon I'm not looking forward to it.

I'm 36+3 today but I still feel like I'm further along. I did have a lovely pregnancy massage today, it was pure bliss!

Pink Petal I'm glad you are enjoying your nct class. I found it fantastic last time, particularly for informing my OH about labour so he really knew my wishes should I be unable to communicate them. They really explained the 3 stages of childbirth/labour, the pros and cons of the natural or managed 3rd stage, tge vitamin K injection, delayed cord clamping, etc. Also I made great friends who I see often now, over 2.5 years later as we're having 2nd babies.

We don't have health visitors come to you around here but I know it's common in much of the country. Here we don't see them until the midwives discharge you 10-14 days after the birth and you go to their clinics.

I've spent all week washing and organising the baby's clothes. There was four large loads to wash after getting them down from the loft, including blankets, sleeping bags, sheets, pramsuits, bibs, etc, and the place looks like a laundry. The car seat, travel system, feeding pillow, bouncer, play mat, etc are also washed which was hard work. The new monitor, moses basket, Chicco crib and Mam bottles are all here and the Sleepyhead is due any day. I've even started my hospital bag with underwear, pads, a tens machine, breast feeding bra, nappies, water wipes, baby grows, hat and vests (need paracetamol, snacks, toiletries, a going home outfit, etc). I feel like we're almost ready.

  • Aw Kynthia! I feel terrible for moaning now as I've not had half the issues you have. I guess we justy have to keep ploughing on and knowing it will all be worth it! And you are sooooo close now!

I'm glad you said that about the classes as that is all the stuff I want to know about. I've read up on it a bit but I'm still a bit confused so looking forward to being able to ask questions and be fully informed. We have our next class tomorrow and it's 3 hours which seems like a long time but I'm sure we'll be packing loads in!
  • Congratulations

Baby justme was born on the 30th at 17:21 weighing 6lb 5ozs. :j

They were trying to induce me since the Thursday and finally put me on the drip on the Sunday. She was then out in just over 6 hours. I managed it on just gas and air. Not sure how! There was a point I thought I couldn't do it because I was so hot! She was out before they were going to check my dialation progress again so it all happened very quickly.

She didn't seem to be taking well to the breast at first, but I carried on and she seemed to be taking. However when she was weighed by the midwife she'd lost about 14% of her body weight. As she is a bit jaundice too we're back at the hospital and she is having light treatment for it. I'm having to express and top up with formula as she obviously wasn't getting enough food. Hopefully she'll put on weight and we can get back to just breastfeeding soon.

Hope everyone is well and you have a good weekend.

Thanks Pink Petal but don't worry I didn't have all those things at once, its more been my journey through the pregnancy and explains why it's not necessarily enjoyable. My friend has sciatica, SPD and carpal tunnel syndrome so she's finding the last couple of months rough too.

Enjoy your class. I did two whole Sundays and one evening with the breast feeding councillor and could have gone back for more. Try to arrange a meet up after your classes and set up a Facebook or WhatsApp group to keep in touch.

    Congratulations Justme! Wonderful news.
