  • Congrats psycho!! Hope everything went well?

That sounds positive Freddie, hopefully it continues!
  • Thank you everyone! Unfortunately she still has no name.... We are too tired to really think about it!

Monday night I had pains in the night, thought I was sleeping funny, Tuesday they were more regular but when we went in to be assessed they said I was in early labour but it could go for weeks... Wednesday I had cramps and spasms in my back and legs due to her pressing on my sciatic nerve each contraction, I rang the hospital at 4pm as I had had enough but they still said to wait... I ended up getting my husband home from work as I wasn't coping brilliantly, by 9pm they were almost constant and I couldn't move as my sciatic nerve was so painful... We went in to be assessed again, at 10.30pm I was 4cm and considered to be in active labour. As I wanted a water birth and the unit was busy, we were left on a bed in a day assessment ward (with gas and air luckily), but by 11.30pm I was 10cm, waters gone and pushing... They had no time to get me in the water, but managed to get me to a low risk room. Eventually I managed to change position (my legs didn't want to work after the cramping) to use gravity, and little miss arrived at 3.56am... Active labour was about 5.5hours start to finish. I somehow only used gas and air... Am fine today just exhausted. We got home at 1pm and the in-laws flew down from Scotland for the afternoon to meet her. We are currently trying to establish feeding (she is so not interested!) so have to see how that goes. It's so surreal to think that we are parents and I've had a baby!!!

Gas and air is amazing... Although DH kept trying to get me to use less of it, or only through every other contraction. Erm no thanks, it's bloomin painful!!

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

  • I don't know if it helped but I was drinking raspberry leaf tea (I now have a big stash as I was upping my dose to 3 a day!), evening primrose oil 2x1000mg and 6 dates per day, all meant to meant make your contractions work harder and soften your cervix more.

I can also recommend doing the perineal massage... I didn't and now have stitches.

I figure it's all got to be worth a try! X

I tried raspberry leaf tea with my son and was getting such strong Braxton hicks with other that they were keeping me awake all night and I had to stop taking it under advice of my midwife. I'm hoping that this time around labour will be a bit easier as I've done it twice now. I may try the dates though.

  • Still struggling with names.... I want a name before we properly announce her arrival! I am the worst when there is a decision to be made and we can't decide, I hate indecision! :)

Do you have a short list? Have you looked at the meanings of the names? Have you thought about whether the name still sounds right when you are telling the child off or if they have a serious job when older (like a judge or bank manager)? Have you looked at how the name cam be shortened and if you like what it's shortened to?
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Psychopathbabble- I had the midwife telling me off for using the gas and air too much!! With the name I would think about what any shortened name is, what the initial would be (with and without any middle names), and importantly go with what you and your oh love, don't be swayed by others.
