Glad to hear all is going well Freddie. Our little one was weighed today and is 11lb4oz at 6 weeks, he is doing great.
Hope he starts to get better at night time, our little one has good nights and not so good nights, but luckily there are now more good nights than bad!!!
We thought we were in for a bad night as he was really really upset, fussy and hungry during the evening. Kept wanting more feeds despite have a really large feed less than an hour before. We'd been trying to settle him in every way possible - except giving him more milk as we'd been told not to giv him anymore than we had been (by HV) as he was already at the highest amount he should be having for his weight - especially as he's also breastfeeding before every bottle.
Assume he must be having three week growth spurt - we did eventually just give him the extra bottle and that was obviously what he needed. Felt really mean for not just giving him it sooner!
Was only when we reread about growth spurts that we realised that was probably why he was being extra hungry and so we weren't going to make him obese!
But anyway he's actually had a really good night.
From 11am he's slept for solid 3 hour blocks with 1 hour feeding/settling sessions in-betweenMortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

Freddie it sounds like your little man is doing so well - your real time info is invaluable, I will definitely be hitting you up with questions when the time comes!
29+4 here and feeling a bit tired this week, think the energy boost I'd been having is on its way out. Only 5 weeks left at work (yes I'm counting... 22 days with all the short weeks I've booked in) and I can't wait to finish already.
We've got a 4D scan booked for Saturday so looking forward to that xMancMama4 (35) TTC since Apr 15, MMC Dec 15, Our Rainbow Baby Charlie arrived Dec 16 :heart2:0 -
Glad all is ok Freddie, some babies are just hungrier than others so I wouldn't worry about making him obese.
I am currently not sure if labour is starting.... DH wants me to call the assessment unit to speak to someone but I don't want to waste their time!Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16Became homeowners 26.02.16

Welcome to the thread Mouse and South! Be sure to add yourselves to the list!
Glad your wee man is doing good Freddie, and definitely a good tip about the growth spurt...will need to keep that in mind!
psychopathbabble - phone them!!! Our midwife said no question is ever a waste of time, you should always phone, even if just for reassurance!
So I'm 30+2 today and can't believe I'm less than 10 weeks! Starting to feel really disorganised as we've not had any time to finish our decorating and we can't sort the nursery til we've finished. Last week was busy with babies...OHs cousin and our friend both had little boys, on e on Wed and one last night so I need to go and do some gift shopping and we'll go for a visit at the weekend (when we should be decorating!!)
Six week til I finish work - can't come soon enough!0 -
Freddie trust your little one to know when he's hungry and when he's not (this excludes jaundiced babies). You can't over feed a breast fed baby and they don't stick to a schedule like when bottle feeding. If he's going through a growth spurt he'll need more, plus cluster feeding in the evening is normal as he'll be increasing your partner's future supply by demanding more than she can give during these times. It tells her body to increase production for a bigger appetite. Health visitors can get obsessed with growth charts and stressing out parents if a child starts to go to high or low in the percentiles. However a contented baby who is putting on weight and has plenty of wet nappies is all a doctor would be concerned with. I hope you have a good breast feeding support from nct, La Leche or something similar other than just health visitors as they know more about this.
Pyschopathbabble what are your symptoms? Unless your waters have broken or you are worried then you don't go into hospital until you are having 3 sets of contractions every 10 mins lasting over a minute each, although it's also worth checking what your hospitals criteria are. Going in too early can often mean being sent home and tgese journeys aren't comfortable. However trust your instincts and go in if you feel you are progressing even if you don't meet their criteria as not everyone fits the standard mould. I hope you are okay.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Thanks ladies, I called them as DH was panicking... Am waiting to see if it progresses but at least they said that so he believes them, he wouldn't believe me! Had a growth scan today as my measurement rocketed but they estimate baby at 7.6 so shouldn't be a huge baby! Just hope things progress as they have stayed the same so farBecame Mrs Scotland 16.01.16

It's complicated because he's breastfeeding but also being topped up with formula.
He should in theory be having between 470ml and 630ml of formula a day at his current weight
He has had 575ml of formula so far today - with likely two feeds left to go.
But he has breast fed before every feed...for a total of over 6 1/2 hours latched.
His latch looks good, can hear sucking and swallowing noises every so often and he's not coming off distressed most of the time. But he's still needing a full feed afterwards - he usually does not last longer than a few minutes after a breastfeed before wanting more (this is after 40 minutes or more at the breast!)
She definitely has milk, it leaks out from the other side when she's feeding him. She's feeling full and then less so after he's fed. But it doesn't seem to be enough for him.
Hard to know whether it's worth pressing on with it or not. It's not too bad when I'm here.
She breastfeeds him, meanwhile I prepare formula and then feed him when he needs it. Giving her chance to rest.
But when I'm at work, she has to feed twice! The breastfeeding can be an hour or more, then preparing bottle, then feeding him bottle, winding, changing him
By the time she's finished it all he's almost ready for the next feed.
So trying to breastfeed is meaning that she has no time whatsoever to do anything other than feed.
No chance for play or walks - or sleep! Barely time to look after herself. She's trying hard but it's not sustainable.
If we don't have any sign of his formula need dropping soon, then we'll have to abandon breastfeeding as it will do more harm than good long term.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

just thought I'd comment as we are in a similar situation. Our son was full term (38 weeks + 5) but a low birth weight (4.5 lbs) and is just over 3 weeks old. He was in a NICU for the first 10 days where they fed him some special formula that is normally used to increase the weight of premature babies.
Anyway, after being released from the hospital we were told to feed on demand and to put on the breast for 15 mins at a time and then top up with formula which seems to work well. He is now 5.5 lbs (still small but growing) and has 120ml of formula per feed every 3.5 hours or so (along with the breast milk).
I guess they are all different but he is so hungry when he wakes up that we have to feed him before doing anything else first!! (the midwifes recommended changing him before feeding but he would scream the house down until fed so we had to feed first then change....also had the added bonus of catching his late poos!).....
which formula are you using? as its a highly regulated industry they all essentially contain the same things but I have found some better than others. After coming off the special premature formula they tried him on SMA which he didn't take too at all and kept throwing it all up (apparently they admitted some babies found it too rich), then they tried aptamil but he also didn't like that too much and was constipated a bit.
We have settled on HIPP Organic and found it agrees with him well and he can't get enough of it, also has plenty of wet nappies and is piling on the weight...
we are using the powder packets with the tommee tippee prep machine (which has been a godsend) and also the ready made 75p cartons for if we are out and about....
also tried a number of feeding bottles and settled on the MAM brand which seems to have reduced his wind a lot!!
anyway hope this info helps in some way.0
