Thank you! I am 6+2 now so still very early but I'm wondering whether i should push them more...maybe I could just ask for booking in to be earlier than usual...? So much conflicting stuff and I do usually trust the docs but googling has got me worried!!Officially Mrs B as of March 2013

Not pregnant (had 4 though) but think i can help.
GP;s seem to be next to useless with Thyroid issues, my Daughter has Graves disease and had a total Thyroidectomy nearly 2 years ago. She's not even allowed to get pregnant without forewarning them.
Anyhoo, if i were you i'd bypass your GP totally and go direct to your Endo (presumably you have one) through your hospital.,Fully paid up member of the ignore button club.If it walks like a Duck, quacks like a Duck, it's a Duck.0 -
Ooh thanks for the help! I don't have an endo though :-( have never needed any detailed help as I was only diagnosed in Jan and dosage is quite low. Argh seems like no obvious answer!Officially Mrs B as of March 2013

Cats my booking in appointment was at 8-9 weeks I think so hopefully you get one through soon. I had a Drs appointment already booked as I was going to ask for a referral back to the hospital to start treatment as I thought we would have problems and had been previously told by the consultant to go back when we started trying. By the time I went to the doctors, I already had a positive test so I just asked if I could get tested for thyroid levels. To be honest if you were tested in May you would probably be ok but see when your booking in is. If it's a month away I would ring and ask for an interim test as your body and hormones will be changing already. Good luck and please do PM me if you want to have a chat about it further xxBecame Mrs Scotland 16.01.16

Absolutely not! :T
Cats2012, I'd be really surprised if booking in was done any earlier that 8/9 weeks (although I may be wrong) but there's no reason you can't push for a nurse/GP appointment for earlier bloods. Best of luck!
I'm not enjoying this heat, thankfully it's not too hot where we are and I've been able to stay reasonably cool at work.
Starting to think about looking into toiletries now - any recommendations? Of the people I've spoken to a few people seem to swear by Johnsons others say to avoid them like the plague. I'm a bit wary of all the chemicals that seem to be in big brands, and I'm guess babies need such few toiletries anyway there are probably really natural and better options available - I'm just not sure where to start.
Could I broach the topic of strep b testing too? It's something I've read about online but was pretty oblivious about it before that. A lot of people seem to pay £35 for a private test. Part of me thought that it's a no-brainer but the other part is thinking if it was required then it would be done.0 -

I have quite a lot of johnsons, (baby oil, wipes, shampoo), just because it's quick and easy. But also some items from both the sanctuary and the cussons mum and baby ranges.
Neal's yard and burts bees, both very natural brands, have some amazing lotions, ointments, oils..etc. I have quite a lot of both of those. Also have a lovely smelling sleep balm from Badger balm, which again is all natural.
If you haven't used Burts before they have some nice baby starter sets with miniatures of a lot of their baby range. I've used them for years, so trust them already.
I agree, I'm wary of anything that is too artificial. I prefer natural products where I can, just in case of any irritation or sensitivity with her skin.Book a week challenge: 11/52. Competitions won in 2021: 120 -
Afternoon all
So much cooler here todayI was so uncomfortable by the end of yesterday.
Busy day here. Dropped OH to work so I could have the car, then went for a quick paddle by the sea to cool me down, then had a BMI MW appt at the birth centre which was a bit pointless as it was a just in case appt following my growth scan so not much was done but she is a nice lady and we had a bit of a chat about water births. Then I picked up a parcel and did a quick mini food shop, home to make a sandwich before going to to an acupuncture appt. This was my last appt before birth unless I go overdue then I will have an appt to try prompt labour at 41+1. She kindly printed out some acupressure points for me to use in labour to help pain relief. Then I went to Post Office, to vets and then got measured for nursing bras in Mothercare (they are same size as pre-pregnancy!) bought two and a lightweight dressing gown/nursing nightie combo in the sale. Phew!!
Came home and had an hours nap after all that!! :rotfl: It was nice to get out though as felt a bit cabin feverish being stuck indoors for 2 days due to no car and the heat.
Yesterday I started making the cushion and foot stool covers for my 2nd hand nursing chair. I have totally cheated and used extra strong fabric glue rather than sew themand staple gunned the footstool, but they appear to be well stuck together so hoping they will last. I made them envelope style so they can be removed, and have spare glue if they come apart. I just need to get OH to bring the chair in from garage and then sew on the tie ribbons. I used the same animal safari fabric as on the ottoman I covered. Hopefully it will be finished by weekend and I'll share a pic.
Hope you are all well in the heat! x* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

I've been wondering exactly the same thing beckyy regarding the strep b test. I had never really heard about it until a few ago when an old friend from middle school lost her baby due to it. She's since done a lot of campaigning to try and get it available on the nhs. I'm going to research it more over the next week or so.0

Hi ladies..
I can help with gbs as it's something I've researched and was also gbs+ last pregnancy.
I'll post some text from a post I put on baby centre :
I was gbs+ in my previous pregnancy and have seen lots of threads on the subject recently and thought I wanted to add some additional information as I've spent a lot of time reading and researching from various sources.
I've seen lots of statistics banded around incorrectly today, I think it's worth pointing out that although it is 1 in 200 babies born to a gbs+ woman will get infected, as only around 1 in 5 women will carry the bacteria, the actual risk of transmission is incredibly low when you add these risk factors together.
There are some possible downsides to the proposal of antibiotics in labour which aren't often talked about. This is because antibiotics can't just target bad bacteria, they also deplete useful bacteria as well. Iv antibiotics during labour are being linked to a rise in e-coli infections in later life, as well as newer strains of antibiotic resistant gbs.
Not often mentioned is the recommendation of avoiding vaginal exams and sweeps where possible, both of which can move any existing colonisation towards baby. Iv antibiotics can also greatly restrict your labour options, depending on trust policy. Vaginal exams are absolutely not necessary and you should never be led to believe otherwise.
I'm not saying any of this to deter people, I had antibiotics last pregnancy in labour because on the face of it, it's an obvious choice. However, I didn't know all of the facts then and having weighed up all my options, I've declined testing this time.
Ultimately, we all have to make the best decision we feel we can, as long as we have a fully informed choice. I will shortly post some links and information to support the above. I hope it is useful and also reassures some people who may be worried about their gbs status.
I'll post some links for you below too:
http://www.groupbstrepinternational.org/what-is-group-b-strep-2/?scid=Android_MPBT_Referral
http://www.aims.org.uk/Journal/Vol15No4/WarOnGroupBStrep.htm
http://www.homebirth.org.uk/gbs.htm
Ultimately, yes, gbs can cause fatalities but it is rare. The bacteria is also transient so you could test positive at 30 weeks but have no colonisation at 38 weeks. Its one of those issues where if you know someone whose baby had gbs, you'd not understand anyone not testing or having antibiotics. Unfortunately the huge amount of ladies that may unnecessarily end up with antibiotics is likely to pose issues in the future, especially given the sheer number who saw the feature and now want to test, understandably of course.
I'll find some more statistics, but whatever choice you make, be aware of the possible symptoms for you and baby. Although antibiotics can prevent infection, they didn't actually change the mortality rate for those babies who still got sick
