What monitor has everyone got? It's about the last thing I need to get (oh and a couple of pram blankets but that's easy and potentially feeding stuff once I've made a decision about feeding!!) and I'm not sure which one to get. I'm thinking of one with a sensor mat but just wondered if anyone had any recommendations.

Can't believe I pretty much have everything now, it's becoming scarily real now!!

I have the Angel care sensor mat and love it. It never went off as a false alarm apart from when I picked her up without pressing pause so I knew it worked. I bought a wall mount from amazon to attach the camera too for when she was in the moses basket. I used it even although she was in the same room as I felt less compelled to stay awake watching her when I could hear the gentle background beep to tell me she was breathing.

I think I've ruled out a video one, just preference really but whilst you are awake they are good but once you are asleep you wouldn't necessarily know if something was wrong. I've looked a lot into the sensor mats and whilst a few reviews mention false alarms the majority praise them, and there are a few to save they have even saved their little ones, I think it would reassure me, there's just a few different makes and models and I'm not sure which one to go for.

Thank you for that sweet, which model is it? Baby will be in my room too but I think knowing I would be woken if something happened would definitely help me to sleep, otherwise I imagine I would just watch him all the time! I have a much younger sister and when I used to baby sit for her I would watch her for ages to check she was breathing so I know how worried I will be with my own baby.x

The Angel care sensor mat had the video attached. I found it quite good to have a quick glance when I put her down to check she hadn't kicked her blanket off or make sure it wasn't over her mouth but it wasn't clear enough to see if she'd spit up or not. The sensor definitely reassured me but I'm a worrier by nature, I hated napping when she wasn't on it, I'd rather put her to her cot so I could take a nap. I didn't mind her napping anywhere else when I was awake and could watch her breathing.

ETA: I read in one review it's the type of thing you might regret not buying but if you regret buying it you can switch the mat off which I thought was true.

Rampant Recycler I've been Money Tipped!
Our monitor has the video on it, after 60 minutes the screen turns off and you hear the sound.

We looked into the sensors but I've heard they're unreliable. Plus with two babies it'd probably cause us more worry.

It's this one I have. https://m.johnlewis.com/angelcare-video-with-movement-and-sound-monitor-ac1100/p/231377141?sku=231377141&kpid=231377141&s_kenid=cd68560c-f7d3-4af9-bc27-55162b3fd596&s_kwcid=403x396380&tmad=c&tmcampid=73 I will keep it incase my angel has any siblings (hopefully) but tbh I think I would get one of those 'next to you' type beds. I thought they looked a bit naff and bought a shnuggle moses basket but felt I was up and down like a yo yo to breastfeed/change nappies/comfort her and if she was next to me I could have comforted her beside me, moved her over to breastfeed or just sat up and it would only have been nappies to get up to change. Don't know if that would have worked with the sensor but that would be the deal breaker.
  • Hi Ladies, hope you are all well and thanks so much for the birthday messages they cheered me up no end xxx

Well, the baby still hasn't arrived, I had a few niggles last night and this morning... nothing!! I spent most of Thursday night in tears as I just feel so fed up and was hoping he would be here by now. Today I am 40+10 (or 41+3 depending which way you look at it) we went on a long walk/waddle this morning hoping to get him moving but apart from the usual back ache, swollen feet and sore bump it doesn't seem to have done much else.

Sorry for the depressing post and I know it has to be soon now but it's becoming a real struggle. How are you euro? any signs yet?

I hope baby makes an appearance soon skint, thinking of you!

We've also got an Angel Care (AC401) with sensor mat. The reviews were great for it, including one which said it had saved their baby's life when the mat went off and baby had stopped breathing. I think the sensor mat is just an extra something to put your mind at rest. I'd rather it went off as a false alarm than we didn't have it and wished we had. We weren't fussed about a video one as figured we would never be far away but I can see the benefit of them. You can get IP cameras with an app for your phone/tablet for quite a reasonable price if it could be cheaper to do that for some.
