Little moog, don't be coerced into anything! I've spent absolutely hours researching and talking to people on home birth sites and I will absolutely be refusing sweeps, induction, vaginal exams and any medicalisation unless there is clear evidence of a pressing medical need. I believe in my body and that this baby will come when she is ready, I am absolutely not going through another messy induction, pph and ventouse again.

If you haven't already, join the homebirth UK Facebook group. They often recommend nipple simulation for natural induction :D

Well done on finding a good deal on the pram! What have you gone for in the end?

I always find it weird when you see people on Facebook selling pages wanting a new pram because they're bored of theirs! The only thing I can see myself doing is buying a new colour pack as I've gone for grey but I really wanted red!

the lobster red joolz geo.. i love red pushchairs.. though I did have my eye on the purple oyster max 2 but Pixie is too big for the seat lol.. they only have grey here or navy  .. I figured it would have a reasonable resell rate in 4 years time when I want rid. It is extortionate but it had £100 off, then a 5% code then 2% cashback.. I am ebaying my life though and the deposit was paid with ebay sales I've already made and we wont be buying anything else.

Someone was selling 7 pushchairs on our local pram group a couple of weeks ago.. they are insane.. some of them had raincovers unused!! How do they have the room?

    I have a £10 Pliko and a £50 bertini.. it was 1998 last time I bought a new pram.. I'm a bit excited!!

I know I can refuse induction, and have done a lot of reading around postdates etc, but DH is really unhappy with going past 42 weeks, and that has to weigh with me too as it's his baby as well. His dad's a doc and he has more faith in the hospital policies than I do I think. I think with our previous history, we could conclude that our babies just take a bit longer and wait a few more days. I was induced at 42+0 with DD, 2 days after a sweep which triggered early labour for 2 nights and went into full labour within an hour of first pessary, so I think I would likely have gone into labour that day anyway. Hoping this one is a day or two earlier to avoid the actual induction so we can stay at home.
Having had no symptoms at all so far, today I've had sporadic strong/uncomfortable tightenings, we've been to the zoo for the day so done loads of walking too and just having a bath with clary sage and lavender oils before DH gives me a massage and we watch a funny film. Having a sweep tomorrow to see if it will kick things off, and DD is going to stay at MILs overnight so will hopefully be able to relax and let things happen.

  • Good luck LittleMoog my 4th sweep got the action going 24 hours later and just 36 hours before I was booked for induction, they told me I had no chance of going into labour naturally and I did - though did end in a section too! I can understand why your husband is not keen on going over 42 weeks. Can also see your point pigpen about accuracy of due dates!

Congrats on the new pram pigpen! Do you have 12 children? that is amazing! I am currently eBaying anything that isn't nailed down too!

Would he relax more if you agreed to monitoring to ensure placenta health? I know it's not always feasible but might give you an extra few days. I'm really lucky that my hubby is fully in agreement that we only change our plan if there is a proven medical need.

Hopefully it won't come to that, good luck!

Sadly when I mentioned expectant management in my consultant appointment he really pooh-poohed the whole idea, said that monitoring is only valid while you're being monitored and could all change by the time you got to the car park. So DH not keen on that idea at all now. I've said that I want to discuss just having an extra sweep on Monday and rebooking for induction on Wednesday if sweep tomorrow triggers anything. Want to discuss how they'd treat me in terms of high risk restrictions in either case though (induction vs post term) as if I can't home birth I'd still like to access pool etc on consultant unit and try to keep things relaxed and as natural as possible.

Its all a big if though, hopefully baby will make a move before Monday anyway :)

I will keep everything crossed for you! I think the policy is different between areas but I know down here that if you are induced the pool option disappears, probably because of the way the maternal care is set up.

It seems such a minefield, my 16 week.appointment midwife told me that the criteria for a homebirth are the same as for the local birthing unit, ie I wouldn't be allowed one due to my weight... The homebirth unit have already indicated a refusal on that basis. I think I'll have a real fight on my hands for a lot of what I do/don't want but we've taken on a lovely and strong willed doula who will hopefully give me the confidence to stock to my guns.

I hate this! It is so very painful! I have only had it worse than this once and was hospitalised with a suspected bowel obstruction

:( nothing worse Pigpen.... I'm assuming you've tried all the usual peppermint tea? tsp bicarb in 1/2 cup water with a few drops of lemon juice? OH rubbing your tummy/back in a circular motion?

Hope you get some relief soon!
