  • May try a new mums sale thing this Saturday morning think u mentioned going to one mrs c n got some bargains :)

Yes I've been to one and there's another in my area on 11th October. It was great for bargains. My advice is not to buy from the first one you see but to shop around at it. I picked up a baby sling that I initially thought about buying for £5 but then I saw a stain on it and had a sly sniff and it stank of smoke. A few tables later I got one brand new in box for £5! I also got a Moses basket for £8, sleeping bag for £3.

There will be loads of different folk there and everyone will be friendly from my experience, and lots of babies to coo over aswell!

    They're well worth a look :)

  • Hi scmp. That was some surprise eh?!

Tia, it was actually quite difficult to put it all down what I've been through this year but it has actually really helped me getting it out there, sometimes it's easier with people you don't know and even easier when they're all behind a keyboard! I don't think I'd ever be able to talk to friends and family about it. I know that he spoke to one of his friends about it all and he said to his wife who wanted to slap DH and get him to widen up! There is no getting away from her with her very strong opinions and I don't know how she managed not to when she next saw him! You certainly know where you stand with her anyway!
By the time I've had this baby I'll be sick of the sight of that ward. I'm determined I want to stay for a couple of nights if they have space so that I can get some initial help and rest away from home but I'm back and forward so often that I'll end up wanting out same day!

My midwife went over birth plans at our antenatal classes and she asked us to have them done for our next appointments with her. Mine was at 36 weeks and she had a look at it then and said what I had in was fine.

As I said, I'm no expert, and the labour and delivery to me is as much DH decision and experience as mine so if they suggest anything we can make the decisions at the time, or rather he can if I'm not fit to!

I'm not going through all that anyway, I'm going to wake one morning and baby will be lying happily gurgling away in its Moses basket beside the bed and it will be totally pain free with no stitches required.

    Oh how I can dream!!!

  • :hello: scmp and b girl! Exciting times up ahead...

MrsC - glad it feels good to get it all out. I do like the anonymity of the forum also.

Also if your LO is going to change the pattern of movement what choice do you have? Fortunately my little man keep on moving. Bit quieter during the day yesterday, possibly as drove up motorway to meet welsh friends halfway - one with a jan baby, one with a may baby - had lunch, drove back, walked to hydro (30 min walk, might have over done it :o), hydro, stop in town to meet DH afterwards, go to M&S and walk home together. Once lying down in bed at 9pm he was up and bopping and been on the go this morning also with DH able to feel both. He's also had the hiccups this morning, bless him.

Timeflies - my area did let us look round the mw led unit but only because it was Sunday morning and quiet. You are never allowed on the labour ward.

Sewit and view - yes I am not keen on the idea of induction as DH would be kicked out if not in active labour. The first thing I tell myself is that there are lots of old wives tales to try out before that stage! Also, if you know induction might be on the cards, it's an opportunity to plan now how you are going to relax yourself and take care if DH does get sent away. Podcasts, music, magazines, books and most importantly how you are going to rest even if you can't sleep. The most important thing will be keeping your energy levels up for the birth itself and trying to view the hospital as the right place to do that might help? I am remembering that if I fight this idea and get upset about being in hospital/induced I will probably have a more stressful experience than it needs to be.

Good ideas about taxi fund. What about any cheap and cheerful travelodge style places? Any emergency friends/family? People are so kind at this time.

Tia - my baby was lazy until 29 weeks. I wonder if actually my anterior placenta prevented me from feeling as much movement, plus I think he moved low-ish quite early on and as my placenta is high I can feel a lot more movement in the groin area since the mid 30s.

MrsC - nice to hear someone else with a petite bump but on track baby :D

:rotfl::mad::eek::( So far no one has asked me to do a birth plan, asked if my home is suitable for the home birth I want, stepped foot over the thresehold, looked at the birth plan, discussed the birth plan. This is driven by my own fear of loss of control and research. However in my handheld notes there is a page that goes through some ideas for one. I am also a recent member of a home birth group.

  • Happy Friday all- Lots to catch up on this morning

Thanks for putting my mind at rest about the Anti-d jab mr_knight It's not been mentioned so I guess I don't have to have it- phew.

Hi to scmp- What a lovely surprise :)

freebiequennie - I got some lovely bits at a baby nearly new sale a while ago and would definitely echo what MrsC....tobe said. we did buy some things straight away but it's defintiely good to do a couple fo circuits and check things out before you buy.

tia86 - I'm still struggling with the job thing- I feel a bit in limbo at the moment as although i'm preparing to be a mum I don't actually have a baby yet and my job is kinda just killing time until my maternity cover starts and I feel a bit excluded from things there. I never thought I would be a mum so my job is all I ever had, so to suddenly change all that at the ripe old age of 36 is a bit of a shock to the system. Baby was very much planned but I didn't quite expect to feel this way about my job. I guess it's all hormones and in reality I can't wait to be a mum. I just want the best of both worlds.

Also my baby is also a little lazy from time to time- I barely felt any movement yesterday and was a little worried- I woke up in the night to discover baby jumping on my bladder- worry over! I didn't feel movements until quite late as I have an anterior placenta and my OH can still only feel if he pops his head on my stomach to listen and then gets a boot in the head.

Sorry for the essay- Hello to everyone I've missed

    Hi All,

Thank you for the warm welcome!
It is definately exciting times in our house and for everybody here!
Wriggles has the nickname as it seems to wriggle on the dot throughout the day and evening! The only time i don't feel anything is when i am busy or active! DH has only felt it a couple of times though as I get a few kicks one after the other and then nothing for 10 mins and then again so it is hard to time it lol!

I have and anterior placenter so had not felt a thing until 22 weeks and all of a sudden we are training an elephant lol
It really is amazing, it's only been 'active' for a few weeks but i have no idea how i have lived my whole life with this constant poking not being there, its weird!
  • Had my growth scan today and not very good news I m so worried and tensed.

The sonographer said that my baby's abdominal circumference is small and was worried that the growth is less. Had a consultant appointment immediately and he said not to work and some times it does happen and asked me to get scans next Friday and coming Friday and then will observe if the baby has shown any growth.

The sonographer said something like abdominal circumference is 5th percentile don't know what this means :(

I asked the doctor is there anything I can do he said no. I read some on google about this and decided to follow a high protien diet for couple of weeks to see if anything changes.

Love actually didn't want to read and run. Can you call your midwife to go through what it actually means? I have no idea about percentiles but they might be able to explain it and discuss with you especially as you are clearly worried. I know you saw the consultant but you probably needed time to think and now perhaps go over it again. Sending you big hugs xx

    Hey loveactually

I know it would be easy to say don't worry about it, however, it's easier said than done. The only thing I could say is that you might find by the next scan it may have balanced back into near norm or norm. I have heard of ladies having growth scans one week with the baby at the low end and by the next, they're fine. Sometimes it takes longer. At my last growth scan my baby's stomach was a little big. However, that seems to have levelled out now. I think from what our consultant said, they only get really worried if the circumference drops dramatically for the head or stomach.

You're not doing anything wrong and there's nothing you can do better.

Write down your questions, phone the midwife and have her talk you through things. Also speak to the consultant with your questions and have them explain everything in detail. If it doesn't make sense, ask them again. Take your time to write down their answers if you need to reflect later and see if you can have someone with you - I find this great as I don't pick up everything being said to me sometimes.

Lean on oh, family or friends. Talking is good for the soul. Try as much as you can to relax - its better for you and better for the wee one.

Please take care of yourself and remember there's nothing you're doing wrong and you have great care around you.

Hang in there LA and sending great vibes for a wee growth spurt xx hang in there kiddo
  • Hugs loveactually - were you able to call your midwife, or will one be on duty tomorrow you could call?
  • Love actually - how stressful.

I had the opposite at my growth scan - they thought his abdomen was a bit big. Conssidering i was there as I was too small I dind't think too much of it.

I will tell you how I understand percentiles. If your baby's tummy is at the 5th percentile, it means if they scan 100 other babies at the same age, 95 of them will have bigger tummies and 5 of them will have smaller tummies.

What I don't know, and what it sounds like the hospital is saying is, they don't know how much that matters. Some babies are small. I was counted as 'failure to thrive' as a baby post birth meaning i was always under the 5th percentile for weight. However at this stage of pg and your own history I don't know if there is more meaning to this.

An important fact to note is that no-one is saying worry. They are saying here is something we are going to keep an eye on. No one has come up with any reason for why this might be (which might be good as it must mean it is nothing obvious or expected). The good news is that they are keeping an eye on you and bub.

I hated waiting 2 days for a growth scan to be told he had a fat tummy. I hated it (the waiting, not his tubby belly, takes after his dad :D)

I hope you can find a way to survive the waiting - the uncertainty drives me nuts. What you can try and do is look after yourself and therefore look after your bub. In whatever form that takes for you :grouphug:
