Wow the conversation has picked up on here in the last few days!

shorty - I know how you feel about seeing your job advertised, mine has gone out with standard wording of 'initially to cover two terms..' but the word initially bugs me!

Always Alone - not sure if you are still lurking, my more recent freebies (and ones I hadn't seen before) were a mini toy cow from Cow and Gate Baby Club and a mini polar bear from Aptamil

Laila - hope you had a good birthday

Wow MrsC, thanks for sharing your story and experience.
Sounds like you have gone through tough times.
Can your workplace not just give you vouchers and have a receipt for that??? Sounds very generous of them to buy an item, but difficult when you have bought stuff. Would be nice if you could have vouchers to spend over the year.
Better to be safe than sorry by going back to the hospital for checks, though expect you are getting fed up of going

Aunty Pickle - again not sure if you lurk here often, I have just started an NCT course, its a 5 week one before the babies are born with one session once the baby is born. There were only 4 other couples, so hopefully will get to know people better throughout the weeks. Thought the first session was ok...though think because I spend a lot of time online researching and reading on here, I didn't learn anything new from the practitioner running the course, and that one of the women who had a previous child was more useful in sharing her experiences!! Am hoping the next session will be on stuff I haven't looked at - its the actually caring for the baby I am more concerned about that pro's and con's of where to give birth!
The NHS classes in my area are always held in the daytime, so difficult for me to attend, as although work have to allow women to attend appointments, I would feel awkward missing 6 Friday afternoons (I teach, so the same class would miss out everytime) and also my boyfriend wouldn't be able to come either.

Love actually I am similar in dates to you, I am 28 weeks tomorrow and have midwife next week. Am absolutely shattered and no idea how I will make it to 37 weeks when I start maternity.

Thanks MrsC and Littlemiss for sharing your birth plans. When were you asked to write these?Did you get any guidance?

Freshstart - I was also under the impression that maternity pay only begins at 36 weeks, so I suggest you check this in your workplace.

    Hugs to ladies in pain

Re the drop in pay, I am already annoyed to notice in my pay this month a supposed pay increase of I assume 1% has left me £11 worse off!!! Not sure how I will feel when I am on about a quarter of my salary towards the end of maternity!

View have you spoken to the midwife about your concerns? No advice to offer you, but if you are that anxious can they help arrange a visit for you and to clearly explain what will happen? Surely its part of the care they should provide

    Welcome B_girl

Not looking forward to injections after hearing your pain Mr Knight

scmp - this is the final group. Welcome!

Apparently its the Next sale this weekend, anyone going? Am tempted but have so much stuff already I am not too sure what I would be looking for.

So as for me, I have had a sick day today. Normally I would go into work and cope, but decided I was not feeling well and I need to think of the baby as well. Still having problems with my gums, so booked another dentist appointment - its a good job they are free! Now just got to get the time off work, which may be a challenge as I have midwife as well next week. Think I will just show them my mouth if anyone dares query it!
My baby is definitely lazy, I would be constantly at the hospital I think if it wasn't usual for him to not move much. He moved a bit more this morning, so obviously enjoys a lie in and does move in the evening, but not to the extent I imagined and what other people say. I don't know if its because I don't treat myself as pregnant if you know what I mean..I don't constantly think about movement and actually having a baby inside, so think he probably does things with me thinking its my stomach or wind lol. If he is lazy, I am hoping this is a good sign for when he is born that he will be sleepy then too.

Sorry to anyone I have missed, had quite a lot of reading back to do!

    Ahhaaa!
I have arrived and didn't realise, Thank you for letting me know!! :j

    My 'hello everybody introduction'

I'm in my 30's, live in Wales and this is my first baby!
Been married since June, together for 6/7 years.
I am 24+5 days pregnant, we are 'Team Yellow', due on the 10th January and the bumps nickname is Wriggles ;)
We have only known about the baby for 9 weeks!

Determined we were pregnant after the honeymoon... which was a shock as we had been 'unprotected' for 6 years with an 'if it happens it happens' attitude so we really had given up on the idea of a baby toegether and there were no indications.
We then waited 2 weeks for a dating scan... turned up it was 18+2 weeks

The following 10 days were filled with blood tests, quad tests, 20 week scan, telling our parents and siblings and bosses.

It has been go go go but things have slowed to a nice peaceful calm as everybody has got over the shock (i think we have lol) and i have a definate 24cm uterus bump measured today at my mid wife appointment.

Definately glad to be here although it is still all quite overwhelming!

So hello from Sunny Old Wales!
  • I am actually thinking I have croup based on symptoms as no cold as such - I am a children's nurse I haven't just googled diagnosed :)

    Seventh Anniversary Combo Breaker
View - I might also be induced due to ivf. I was told it would be either 3 days before or after due date. This is what they told me.

At about 2pm we'd go to hospital, would be monitored and first pessary would be given. Then we'd hang around on labour ward until 9. If cervix dilated then waters would be broken, if they can't do that then another pessary would be given and DH would be sent home as he's not allowed to stay overnight. Repeat process in morning if not gone into labour. If after 3 pessaries they still can't break water then I either have option of going home and back in next day to repeat, or offered a planned c-section. If they can break water then they'd they would monitor on labour ward and give drugs to get things moving. Dr did say that it will probably be a long process as is first baby. You are separate from mums and babies and in with other mums being induced or in early labour.

I'm really scared of induction as I don't want to be without dh during labour and would prefer to be at home during early labour if possible as it can be a long time! Our hospital doesn't do visits but have videos on line.

Phew, bit of an essay but hope it's a bit helpful!

  • Wow this thread has been busy the last few days! I have read back, but it's turned my brain to mush trying to remember what I was going to comment on :D

Welcoe b_girl and scmp - I thought the same too, about this thread not being titled x weeks + or something, but you're in the right place. b_girl I'm sure 30-40mins' travel to the hospital is quite normal - Ive not timed mine but I'd guess it's about that.

I had my flu jab this afternoon, feel fine so far - how was yours island.girl?

I can't remember now who said about waiting to see the labour ward - could you go on a hospital tour? My hospital has them twice a week - we're booked on one next week.
