Oh I'd love a pedicure! My feet are a mess of horrible hard skin. Since I'm at home now I never wear shoes, so I'm wondering if that is part of it.

Firey - I can't see your email address. Can you PM me?

  • Which 'number' weeks did you miss teacake, I might be able to fill you in if you'd like? I think I am a hippy at heart I'm buying old school cloth nappies, prefolds, and hope to breastfeed and baby wear and baby lead weaning, and have delayed cord clamping and skin to skin for as long as possible and all that... :D and I'm even now reading about elimination communication... that might be a step too far but hey, we will see!

Thanks for that Robots- it's my second time on the course so I know what I've missed, just more annoyed that i've missed it. Especially as the neuro appointment was so brief that I'd barely sat down when she gave me a form to go back in 9 months as 'you'll have stopped bf by then'. Er, maybe but I am hoping to bf whilst doing blw so may continue for up to a year (not sure I could do 2 years like WHO recommend but never say never)... You sound as 'hippyish' as me. My friend does EC with her little girl who's about 18 months now (as well as cloth nappies, extended bf, baby signing etc) and it seems to work quite well- obviously the nappies are there for accidents but she's largely potty trained now. Think that was what I liked about cloth nappies, they seem to potty train earlier than with disposables.

Your consultant sounds awful. I don't know where they get off being like that with people, especially at a time when lets face it we're all far more vulnerable as it's not us that we're stressing about- it's baby!. Clearly you've been deemed 'high risk' so these things should've been discussed much earlier! I'm glad you didn't get the s&s and that your midwife is equally perplexed. Sounds like he has a 'one way of doing things' mentality rather than looking at the person in front of him and the health state they're in.

I haven't seen my consultant yet- only saw her when IVF was on the cards and it was with concern to my uterine abnormality. I also have a small benign brain 'lesion' and a benign arrythmia. The only thing she was bothered about was my uterus. 4 consulatnt appointments later- each seeing a different registrar amd the last one basically tells me that he'll book me in for an anaesthetist appointment as 'he'll definitely want to whack an epidural into you due to the arrythmia'. Er- the last reg said Everything was ticking along very nicely and that I'd be suitable for mlu birth. When I asked about home birth she said that it was my choice but mlu was equivalent to home birth. I choose home birth. Last registrar then emails the consultant whilst I'm sat there like a naughty school girl (after he'd asked me if the midwives i'm with had 'put me up to home birth') to arrange a further appointment with them both for me at 34 weeks so they can persuade me of the error of my ways! Not a single mention of what my risks are or case history or even best/ worst case scenarios for me and baby- just the idea that I'm naive enough to be led/ manipulated into decisions I don't understand and that i'm being wilfully detrimental to the health of my baby. I honestly haven't received any coherent advice from any of them and despair of the idea of having to go into that hospital as I know I'll end up with an epidural and probably a section if they get their way. I feel your doctor pain. Hope you have a fab birth, your way and really wipe their eyes! :)
  • Ooh. A pedicure. Jealous! OH said he'd get me one but I think he's promptly forgotten that! Enjoy! :)

Tea&cake did he actually say the appointment is to talk you out of home birth?!! I'm shocked especially at the lack of advice / info that you need to make your own mind up!!
Just seen the midwife & baby is still head down, so I'm allowed to book into the midwife led unit :) so relieved as there had been a lot of movement!! Clever baby has shifted around from back to back as well. I mentioned my pelvis pain & have been referred for group physio?! Anything is better than nothing tho and if they can give me exercises to improve things that'll be fab! Assuming baby doesn't arrive before I hear from them lol!

Hi, I've been off the boards for a few days so have only caught up on the last few pages. I'd already turned off the notifications for the 2013 group as it was so huge. It's a shame as there's quite a few people I'd like to 'see' how they're getting on. Anyway, I've sent t2d a request to join the new 2014 group.

Re present lists, I've set up an amazon wish list for myself but if anyone ask I'll just refer them to it. But if anyone asks I'll probably ask them to buy 3+ month clothes. I have put reusable nappies on my wish list and it would be great if people chucked in together to even buy one of them.

  • Reusable nappies are a total minefield aren't they! I bought a starter birth to potty pack but they're not really newborn suitable and I don't want to spend a fortune on newborn reusables... But don't want to use disposables too. Am looking for some secondhand wraps for newborns to see if that works out better- one of my firends is a 'nappy guru' so hopefully she can point me in the right direction!

Ema- that's exactly what the meeting is for- luckily my lovely mw is going to come with me and she's already researching the risks and studies so that we can discuss them at our upcoming appointments. He spoke to me like I was a blithering idiot. I was so shocked that I just sat there- didn't even have the nouse to say anything like Robots managed to! All along i've been told if I stay low risk and have a normal pregnancy then I can have mlu birth or its home birth equivalent- until that idiot....

We are hoping to start adventures with reusable nappies soon :) Just waiting to heal a bit more before I take on all that washing. I bought a selection of birth to potty ones, and have DIY terry squares, muslins and wraps for the interim.

I will PM you now to join the new FB group Teaandcake :)

Amazon wish lists are wonderful, I live 4,000 miles away from my family, and being able to point them at a single list will be far better than either them shipping things or us trying to bring things home when we are next over there.
