    Congratulations Derby!! :) x

So lovely to hear your good news Mrs_T x

I have not been on here much lately, just plodding along with not much to report.

I had my 28w appt. last week, very quick as usual. Took my bloods, did measurements, checked heartbeat, asked if I felt OK and then if I was happy with baby's movements to which I replied yes to both! She told me to book in with reception for the whooping cough vac at 30 weeks and made me another appt. for 32 weeks.

I must admit I expected at little bot more at this stage, perhaps rather than asking if I am happy with baby's movements (I am a first time mum) tell me what should be happening...

I have the numbers to ring for the antenatal classes. Locally we are offered one parent craft session and one BF session both at around 32 weeks.

I am back at the hospital this week to discuss my haemoglobin levels.

Glad to me in the third trimester and starting to feel huge now!!

FF my midwife did say that I should call them any time I was concerned about reduced movement. However I think if you are busy and moving around they tend to sleep or you don't notice the movement so it's tricky to know isn't it. Last time I half mentioned it at a MW appointment & was sent to hospital / strapped to a monitor before I knew it, bit of a hassle but I think it's always worth checking.

Robots - the more you mention about the Lazy Daisy classes the more I'm intrigued. There isn't one local to me, however I keep thinking maybe it's something I could teach after baby gets here. I've just started teaching yoga so it might fit in well, will have to do a bit of research! I love the more natural side of preparing for labour - I think the more relaxed you can be the better!!

I went to the NCT classes last time - had to debate the cost, but it was mainly worth it for the people I met through it, I'm still very good friends with some of them and it was perfect knowing other people due at the same time as me.

Jen - I think the advice is to get to know what is normal for your baby movements - my experience is that they can differ, but what is important is that they keep to the same sort of pattern. Therefore you are the best one to know if they seem ok - the type of movements will change, but the quantity should stay fairly consistent.
My first moved a lot less than this bump - on the only occasion this one slowed down to the level of the first I was on the phone to the maternity unit because it was so much less!!

Congratulations Derby!! You really are going out of your way to avoid being in any threads with me. ;)

I'm doing the NCT classes, there really wasn't talk of many other options but since I'm in central London I presume there is. However all my girlfriends have highly recommended it so I'm going. It's in August which feels quite late for me. I've been told to expect the baby around 34-36 weeks, and the second class is in my 34th week. And this was the earlier class!! The recommended ones were in September.

Anyway, I have a larger crisis... I've just realised that in that same week (34) my mum (and possibly dad) and my sister are arriving to see us. Parents live in Sydney and my sister in HK so it's not a quick visit. This morning I got a message from my MIL that she and my FIL are arriving on the same day!! They are driving up from Spain and have fixed dates as well (based around the football season).

So, here is the plan for the day:
6am: Parents and sister arrive. Collect from airport, provide chit chat and entertainment
    10am: NCT Class
12 ish: IL's arrive. They will have to get themselves here. FIL can't walk, and they can't bring the campervan into town.
    4pm: Finish NCT.
4.30pm: Endless chit chat and tea with sudden massive group of people at my house.
6pm: Probably a birthday dinner. Did I mention it's my birthday too!!

Jaysus... just what I will need. DH doesn't really get on with his parents so I normally mediate, and my family are fine, but they all need somewhere to sleep and entertaining. I can only hope that I'm on hospital bedrest by then. :)

  • Congrats clare. :)

Robots- I do lazy daisy classes too (though I had to miss last weeks and have a neuro appointment that clashes with tomorrows:( ) I really enjoy them which is weird as I'm not massively into yoga and usually all of the 'hippyish' things make me uncomfortable. My mum reckons I've turned into a hippy though (reusable nappies + wanting to exclusively bf= obvious hippy... Lol) so maybe that's why I love the classes! They're so relaxing- i'm usually in a coma during the relaxation at the end- there's been a few weeks where my instructor has had to poke me awake and i've had to wipe the drool off my chin! The glamour! :)

I'm going to go to one of the baby shops to see if the joie stages will fit into my car- it's supposed to last until they're 7. Will go with the car seat I have initially (joie gemm) and the belted base until baby too heavy to lift in and out with seat. Definitely want to keep baby rear facing for as long as possible- especially after my driving skills at the weekend!

Daisie- urgh at the no sleep + cleaning + entertaining! Sounds like far too much hassle. I'm a hermit at the best of times! :)

I booked my NCT classes yesterday- stupidly before checking the dates. I thought they were ran over 2 weekends and were in August. How wrong could I have been?! They're over 5 weeks throughout July (4 hours every Saturday), I won't be able to go to 2 of the sessions and OH can't go to 4 due to a course he's on. Have just emailed to see if I can cancel but not sure they'll let me as it starts on the first Saturday in July. I'll be gutted if we lose that money- £150 is a lot right now (well, it always has been but more so at the moment!)

MW coming to give my anti-d this evening. No sign of antibodies on the blood test she took so that's a relief. I'll have to ask her about the courses they run as they do a parenting one and a hypnobirthing one too. No idea how and when to book on though. Think there's a few bf ones in our local cc and also a couple of 'how not to kill your baby' classes too... Might go to those as well seeing as I can barely keep a plant alive!

    Congratulations Derby and Clare! :)

And congrats and welcome Mrs_T_M :)

I'm so far behind on the chat I don't think i can catch up very well.

Re bloods I had some done at 28 and 34 weeks. I had my whooping cough vaccine around 28 weeks as well.

On aspirin, I'm on both aspirin and Clexane (injection) but I stopped the aspirin at 34 weeks, and will continue the celexane till 6 weeks after birth, although I do stop it when I go into labour, and then go back on it after birth. So I'm not sure what you should do if just on aspirin, but obviously it isn;t a major issue to be on thinners up to birth otherwise I would have to stop mine earlier.

Classes - I'm not doing any this time, but I have been offered a free day-long hypnobirthing workshop from a friend who is training, which should be interesting. I did find the classes useful last time but I did private ones not NHS ones.

Fundal height and growth scans - fundal height is pretty accurate. Growth sans only really tell you if baby is growing proportionally when you have two a few weeks apart. They are notoriously INaccurate for weights and dates so don;t rely on them.

I;ve been diagnosed with antenatal depression and referred to a specialist MW team for extra support. I'm trying to stop work and commitments now as a matter of urgency so I can try to relax and prepare for the baby - I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and i haven;t done a thing yet!
