Robots re gbs are they going to retest you? I had this also x

They've said I can pay for a private test, but as it's not theirs they might want to go the antibiotic precautionary route anyway. I do certainly want what's best for baby (resultant infections sound horrid), but if it really is best, why don't they test everyone 4 weeks before their due date?
Sorry you had it too... Did it affect you at all?

    Robots try not to panic.

The clinical environment can slow people's labour down as it can make them anxious and your body needs to be relaxed to labour so that's why they tell you to stay at home for as long as you can.

But for me when labour got going I wanted to be there so I could get some pain relief! So you might find some of your fears go away at the time because you are concentrating on the contractions etc

Hopefully you won't have your baby just before visiting hours end!

I had Grace at 12 so DH didn't have to leave until 9.

We were in a delivery suite room for around 3 hours anyway waiting for a bed on the ward. And in the night you really don't want other people's partners hanging around.

I had a c-section so I couldn't get out the bed for almost 24 hours but it was fine I just pressed the call button & a hca or midwife would come & pass her to me and they did her nappy changes. They were all lovely.

I know it might seem scary but also remember you won't be alone you'll have your new baby!

The other option is see if your hospital have private rooms and ask for one of those as at my hospital partners can stay over night in these.

Thankyou Claire for taking the time to reassure me. It's really appreciated.

Yes I guess pain relief might be a great reason to get in there early!

I thought I'd read that anxiety slows labour so yes, that's what I want to avoid!

I could always request a home birth (which they won't want to arrange due to the health issues, but which is lawful to ask for, inc the antibiotics), but it would mean they aren't ripping apart a new family.

Humm... Maybe I could pop to hospital, get the antibiotics through the arm cannula, then go home again!

My personal feelings on partners extends to other ladies partners... If I'm in a room with other ladies & babies that's going to be non-private & noisy & buzzers going due to bed bound ladies, & nurses popping in disturbs sleep too, so we might as well All have our partners there!

I guess my anxiety manifesting now about this is actually a good thing, as it means I have time to calm down, think rationally & look into private rooms, home birth, etc in good time.

  • After some worrying scan results doctors decided it was time for little man to meet the world. Baby boy born 10/04/14 by c section. Massive relief that he was ok and we're both back home now. Have to say the first few days were tough as with the wound I couldn't move to pick him up/put him down without being in agony but I'd go through a thousand times worse as he's definately worth it. I didn't realise I could have asked the midwives to do pass him to me and do nappy changes etc until I was transferred to the MLU by which point I was managing ok.

Good luck to everyone due soon!

RobotsinDisguse - I had DS at 2am and my OH at that time had to leave after about half hour. I felt very lonely going down to the ward alone, but in the morning there were ladies feeling exactly the same and we all had a natter. I am sorry your recent stay in hospital didn't help how you feel either.

Similarly with Isaac - he was born just before midnight, and OH summaried the attitude as "congratulations, you're a father, now f*** off." He wasn't very happy about it.

I'd never thought about timings with regards to OH before but I think it's pretty disgusting if they get thrown out pretty much straight away. Luckily Erika was born at 6 mins to 9 in the morning, and visiting for partners was 9 to 9! Good timing little one!! Would have absolutely hated if it OH was told to leave.

    Congrats Polka Dots!
