Looking on the bright side, they've upped the age. My mother was described as "elderly" with her second child, as she'd turned 30.....
I'm not personally offended or anything, I'm aware I'm not 21 anymore! I just think it's a bit irresponsible to be offering early induction to women based solely on their age.
I get that, as a study, the whole point is to find out whether this approach is advantageous. I just think it's a it silly. I'm not even sure where I'm going with this or why I'm cross. I guess it's what you should expect being under care from a university hospital!0 -
I was told at my booking appointment that I would be induced early-one reason for this being my age, along with that it was over 10 years since I had had a baby and the ICSI-all of these factors individually put me at higher risk of pre eclampsia-never mind them all together!
Now I have gestational diabetes I will definitely be induced early. to be honest I'm quite pleased that they are on top of it all as all that matters is that baby gets here safely.0 -

Me too - lots of leaflets abotu studies and so forth - I'm at UCH in central London....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
That's great that they're looking after you mrshappy I'm definitely not against the idea of early induction. I'm just a bit baffled that I'd be offered it based solely on the fact I'll be 35 a few weeks before my due date, when I'm otherwise low risk. Obviously there's plenty of time for things to change and if they do I'll do whatever is necessary to protect my baby.
I'm super tired today. I have just lain around and let OH look after me this evening. Feel a bit guilt to be honest, but he doesn't seem to mind.0 -

I've only had a couple so far, I should probably start ignoring them if I'm going to let it wind me up like this!! I'm at cambridge university hospital, but under midwife led care so will probably have baby at the on-site birth centre if all goes smoothly (big if, I know!)0 -
That is weird Wang, as I thought induction leads to higher rates of intervention, especially if its done before term? I'd have been offended too! I'm also in a clinical trial about pre-e but all it meant was an extra scan at 12 weeks

Maybe it's the nice weather or something but I just can't get my head around doing work. Two deadlines today gahhh! My concentration span is about 20 seconds.:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
It does, as I understand it, lead to higher rates of intervention if done when you aren't really ready to go into labour - what was called to me a "cascade of intervention" after Isaac's birth, when he was induced, induced again, foetal monitoring, eventual section....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

AFM, I just got home to a letter from the hospital inviting me to take part in a study offering early induction of labour as older women "such as myself" are less fit and able to carry a pregnancy beyond 39 weeks and early induction may be safer for me and baby. I'm actually quite cross and insulted that they would offer unnecessary intervention to healthy women with normal low risk pregnancies. I'm hardly inferm - I'll turn35 8 weeks before my due date and I'm very fit and active still.
Sorry for the rant. Hormones seem to be making me mad today. Makes a change from teary!

That's just ridiculous, especially if you are fit and healthy and low risk otherwise. I'm 32, so don't fall into that silly 'older woman' category quite yet but if I did I'd tell them to stick their study up their rear end! I'm overweight, and really inactive but I seem to be having a 90% textbook pregnancy so far, so taking just one factor into consideration is just daft.
Had my 31 week midwife appointment today at 31+4, all good! Perfect iron, urine, BP etc. Lil HB is lying head down. Still measuring over by 2cm but I was three weeks ago, so baby is growing consistently. I'm going to a placenta check scan in 2 weeks so they'll check that anyway.
So with that and having a nice week off work I feel a bit guilty saying so far so good my end! x0 -
That's crazy Wang.
I had my first son @ 39 and have just turned 41 and 2nd is due end of June. I have a high BMI 36 and had a couple of appointments with consultant. My GTT is fine my BP is fine (mw always comments on how good it is) urines all fine and at no point has the consultant mentioned intervention because of my age...infact I have been discharged from his care unless I go over. Guess different trusts again showing their differences.Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Hello ladies - peaks up from studying!
I have just had my 36 week check (I am 35+4) and for all those worried about measuring under - I was and now I am way over - so much so I am going for a scan next week to check babies size!
I am now measuring 38 weeks and have always been previously under but wonder if it was because I think her head is engaged - it is - but apprently then is more likely to measure under than over as the head has dropped into the pelvis!
So queue me worried all weekend - even the midwife said its only as a precaution but can indictate a large amount of waters or a big baby and very little waters. Will try not to worry but it will be a long Easter weekend!
I hope you ladies are all doing good - all those in bold - sending you labour vibes!
