My friend breasted till 1, as she didn't like her child 'requesting it', but her friend is still breast feeding her child who just turned 3. I was with them both the other week, and the 3yr old was grabbing at her top & boobs.
This made me think. I'm all for freedom and doing what's right for you and your child, but if think I'd want to stop before the child was able to actively remember! (If not long before then!)
- our dog has been kept in overnight again, to ensure all is ok. I miss her, but baby has been very active today so has kept me company!
- I'm 24 weeks, I guess it's too early to start washing the 2nd hand bits we've been given??
- Gem - I'm sorry I have no advice, hope you find help xPlease forgive the badly spelt alias... I am a long time contributor who needed to reclaim anonymity for health/job related posts.0 -
I'd be most upset about having to give up booze in order to bf for that long!
Hope your dog is feeling better, Robots.
Gem (((hugs))) I hope some of the other ladies can help, and your lotions give you some relief. Sounds unpleasant!:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
Had my NCT breastfeeding session last night. Whilst I learnt a lot, I did feel the woman was a bit militant about it, insisting that "2 years" is how long you breastfeed for - no other options or discussion! Also, if you're doing BFing right, it is "NEVER" painful. Hmmmm. I'm not sure I'll be calling her for advice after the birth!
I can't help feeling that woman is going to put people off bf!
2 years is the World Health Organisation recommendation. NHS is 6 months for some reason. The reality is that people will do it for as long as suits them but sadly the percentage of women who reach 6 months in this country is ridiculously low.
I bf my daughter until she was 20 months so I guess I'm biased here btw! She self-weaned when my pregnancy got established. I can definitely say that feeding her in the beginning, despite there being no issues with latch or tongue tie was painful. However, it would go after the first few seconds. I was always told to count to 10 - if it hurts after that there is a problem with latch or something else.
If anyone needs advice look to NCT (if you have a nice one!), La Leche League, Breastfeeding Network and I'm sure there are others. There are lots of resources out there. You may well find that your midwives or health visitors are not the best sources of help.
And Lara44 you don't have to give up alcohol altogether to bf. However, you shouldn't feed your baby straight after going out for a big session!:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

Don't look down on toddler-feeding weirdos, though - it's not a bad thing, honestly. I was one with Isaac (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Happily Married since 20160 -
My friend still feeds her 18 month old morning and night but the days she's of work she does it more on demand. When I saw them the other day, he was pulling at her top trying to get her boobs out!! I'm planning on doing it for 6 months at the most.
I fed my son until he was 2 years 4 months and he just to pull at me too, when I was asleep he'd climb in with us, pull my top down, position my boob and start chowing down! I loved that he was getting the best food he could, but it was harder whrn he was that age and had a mouth full of teeth. I'm planning to breastfeed the new baby but I do think I'll try and curb it a bit earlier this time.0 -

My friend is the same, she's still bf her now two year old as and when. I find it somewhat uncomfortable...poor bf struggles for him that's eye level so he thinks 'awww she's asleep....oh no wait that's a boob'!
Our plan is six months max as we would like to start weaning in time for me doing back to work
Went for the meal with the one colleague, we went somewhere new and it was lovely and bless her she paid! We don't talk much at work as we seem very different and cold but tonight she was lovely, relaxed and jolly good company :-)************************************

LLS glad to hear your night turned out well after all
Emz congratulations, sorry to hear it was traumatic but so glad you all made it safely! Xxx
I forgot to say earlier that it's me and my husband's 7 year going out anniversary today so we're celebrating by sharing some chip shop chips and watching blades of glory0 -

My friends daughter was pawing at her top at a few months old and they obviously root from birth but I see what you're saying. It was actually really cute though watching my friends baby rooting on his dad, his head was going crazy it was quite funny!I'd be most upset about having to give up booze in order to bf for that long!

You can still drink Lara, we learnt that at nct!
You just can't get drunk - and in that case you wouldn't be capable of looking after a baby anyway.
Our teacher said a glass of wine & piece of cake should be compulsorary0 -
Congratulations Emz and what a lovely name :-) Hope your both home soon xx
Robots - I was given a whole bundle of clothes a few weeks back and have washed them all already lol I was around 25/26 weeks so I don't think it's too early.
