Oh this month has been a bit of a blur so far, didn't even have time to do a start of month post. Anyway I'm aiming for £150-£180 this month since I did need to do some stocking up. Currently coming in at £131 but def need to do a trip tonight to pick up some bits and bobs, will probably come in around £15 I think. Then there'll hopefully just be one f&v shop till payday. I'm hoping I can stick with it this month since we had to get the boiler repaired (£118 I hadn't budgeted for although at least it is working properly now!) Off to make a shopping list now :)

    good luck everyone.

    Wish me luck!

    Hi all

Oh wow, everyone is doing so well that I feel ashamed to admit that I got my sums wrong and am already £14.74 over budget. :(

On the positive side, I've food to get me through the main meals next week till I get paid Friday, (bitty earlier than I'd thought) but still got basics like milk, bread, loo roll and cat food to get. I've also spent probably about £50 less than I did at this stage in the last few months.

Ok, so I guess on reflection things are looking up.

Spent £4.62 today in Lidl, getting my veg and 2 bottles of cheap and nasty wine (one for dinner with gran tomorrow, the other for a bbq sat).
This tips me £6.47 over budget and should hopefully last me the rest of the month.

Still I can't kick myself too much, I used to spend around £40 a week on just me! To drop this to £76.47 for one month is a lot better than what I used to spend.

I guess I will keep next months target at £70 and see if I can get a little closer.

    Hello all,

    Previous total £162.23 - finish 27th July - Budget £265.00

    Tesco £10.68
    Tesco £27.18

Got alittle bit back into my bad ways of not planning properly.

Never mind, I know what to do to get back on track. Still not looking to bad for the end of the month.

    New Total £200.09 - 9 days to go :o

Thanks Irishwexford for reminding me about the milk, I forget that because OH sorts out the money for the milkman.

£5.76 for the four weeks, we only have three pints a week, so new total is £205.85

Spent £5 today on milk, ham and cereal. Have £12 to last me to end of next week but will just buy milk and fruit. Still have plenty of frozen meals I cooked earlier in month and cupboard full of tins. Had my bank statement in today and now must get my personal spending under control as full page of transcations.;) . I want to visit cash machine less and bring next statement to half a page. As I have had success with the grocery challange I feel positive regarding personal spending.
  • Just found this thread and so glad to discover there are many more people who spend a realistic amount on the monthly shop:j .I have seen loads of posts elsewhere on weekly shops of £20-30 or even less for family shopping and I have tried and failed to stick to that sort of spend.:o
I have got my weekly spend for a family of 3 adults(eldest is 16) and 1 kid to under £55 a week and am more than happy at that level.Anything less is deprivation:rotfl: .
This week I tried Asda for the first time,I usually use Tesco.I just ordered what I needed and usually order and was pleasantly surprised at the end cost.I then did a like for like shop on Tesco site just to see what this weeks would have cost and it was just over £17 more expensive:eek: .
So from now on I am going to do my weekly shop on both sites and see which is best value that week before paying.:D :D:D
Just to add that my shopping total includes all toiletries, cleaning stuff, loo roll(and not the value stuff either),wine(1 bottle a week, this weeks one was £5.02,glass bottles of coke £3.19(hubby,s weekly treat).
I allow everyone to add one luxury item to the shopping, strange how kids when given the choice always choose fruit over sweets.
Every week I get my bottle of wine, hubby gets his glass bottles of coke,my son get mangoes and daughter gets berries, usually strawberries. We do buy loads of fruit anyway but these are their special treats.
