I don't know if it's me but my Posts total seems to have got stuck on 106 for some time know. Also everybody else's seems to be stuck. What's going on?

How many posts does one have to make to get the 2nd star?

Just milk, bread and fresh veggies until Monday.

Just noticed the total has gone up to 107, but as I have made 15 posts on this board and on one or two others I reckon it should be at least 121. Come on Board monitors give me my dues!!

    Er Please. Ta!

... I have seen loads of posts elsewhere on weekly shops of £20-30 or even less for family shopping and I have tried and failed to stick to that sort of spend.:o
    ....
I allow everyone to add one luxury item to the shopping, strange how kids when given the choice always choose fruit over sweets.
    ...

Every family is different and our budgets only have to suit our own situation. Glad to hear that you dont worry about trying to live on someone else's limit. :D I've never managed to get my shopping much below £15 or £20 a week just for me, including toiletries etc. I'm sure there are people who can live on much less but I dont intend to try; when I look back at what I used to spend (pre-MSE!) I am very happy with my progress! ;)

great idea to let everyone choose a special item, maybe this would be useful for anyone encountering resistance from older kids and even OH

    Good luck with the challenge!

Spent just under £15 in Lidl today on a top up shop, inc some sweets which were on offer, now added to total, which actually isn't looking quite so scary now as only 10 days left of my month. Having very little time this week to shop has kerbed my impulsive spending a bit :o I haven't even been working off a meal plan. I think I will do a freezers stock list today or tomorrow and see how long I can make what is in last :)

Oh before I forget there are sites like http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/Home.aspx for comparing supermarket prices.
One day I might be more organised...........

Well, today I did my last bit of shopping for this week...spent yet another £16.00! I only went in for some frozen peas, bread and fruit!
I don't know what it is but I always end up spending far more than I thought I was going to. I think I am just a sucker for a "bargain" I fall for the "oooh, that looks good and it's cheap too" bit every single time!
In fact, to be honest I think I'm getting worse since I joined the challenge! I've become much more conscious of trying to "save" money, so the so called bargains look even more attractive in some perverted sort of way (or is it just me?:wall: :wall:)

Anyone got any ideas how I can stop myself succumbing to temptation?

Oh well, my total is still below budget. I have a week to go and think, judging by my current form, I will probably go over by just a little bit:(

my budget-keeping record is not exactly brilliant :o so I've been trying to think of ways to improve for August. I've decided that in future I'm taking enough for my shopping and just 2 or 3 pounds extra and that way I cant overspend, but I'll have a couple of pounds 'spare' if I do see a really good bargain. That will make me think about whether I should stick to my list or not!! ;)

Bobbykins I find a good way to resist is know how much I will need to spend, or close to it and only take that with me. A few £ maybe for bargains if I really need them but I always try to remember now 'It's only a bargain if I would have bought it anyway'.

I'm back! Er, well I was back two days ago but still recovering from travelling and trying to pull my head out of the sand from spending far too much in French supermarket :o

Most of that was on wine so I'm not counting it towards grocery challenge. Going to have to estimate as DH threw receipt away. My month finishes today as tomorrow is payday.

I think I might leave updating my signature until tomorrow as brain is hurting!

Sorry to hear about your bad news MikeD x

    Hi all.

New month for me and for the first time ever we ended up with money OVER the buffer in our shopping account which go tsyphoned off into a savings account!

We're away for 4 days tomorrow with friends and I have NO idea what to budget... Self Catering but he has quite expensive food tastes and I htink he's planning on quite a bit of drinking....

Anyway have already spent some of my new £200 budget as I had some coupons to spend in Tesco ASAP so used them up. Total spend was £36.81.

Haven't got any meat at all and will need to buy some when we get back on Monday. Will also need other bits like bread, fruit etc....

    Off to update sig now....

    Hi all,

Was doing wonderfully well with this month's challenge until I went to the farmer's market this morning and spent €32.50...some of it I needed but there was €6 for 3 muffins,€4 for red gooseberries and €8 for pecorino cheese just because I fancied them! Then proceeded to supermarket and spent another €119.02 so I have ended up having just €18.18 to see me through to end of the month...I have just realised that today was my fourth shop this month, so I should be ok, as there is plenty in fridge, store cupboard and freezer...so maybe I'm not such a loser as I thought.:j :j
