    Hi all.

New month for me and for the first time ever we ended up with money OVER the buffer in our shopping account which go tsyphoned off into a savings account!

We're away for 4 days tomorrow with friends and I have NO idea what to budget... Self Catering but he has quite expensive food tastes and I htink he's planning on quite a bit of drinking....

Anyway have already spent some of my new £200 budget as I had some coupons to spend in Tesco ASAP so used them up. Total spend was £36.81.

Haven't got any meat at all and will need to buy some when we get back on Monday. Will also need other bits like bread, fruit etc....

    Off to update sig now....
your doing just great shortie, have a great time with your friends, lifes for living:T

    Thanks teedy23

I think he's bringing some stuff with him for the hols as he works in catering and if he asks nicely enough for 'samples' suppliers send him bits as he wants him to buy it for the company he works for :T

Plus we're going to Tescos when we get there to stock up, it's just the booze bit on the shop that'll be the killer. But as you say life is for the living, and it won't be as bad as it could be as I'm not drinking (pregnant) and DH might not drink too much as he's adamant my dates are wrong and that I'm about to pop any minute :rotfl:

Hi Curvey, welcome to the grocery challenges!

The August thread will be up on 1st August but you should budget according to when your pay day is. Some people get paid mid month or different dates than 1st so work out when your month needs to run. sorry, just saw your comment about starting 27 july:o

When you start the challenge its useful to have an idea of what you spend so might be a good idea to keep any receipts you get in the meantime.

Best help for me was to check what I had in the cupboards and freezer; I also do a weekly meal plan, write a shopping list and stick to it.

Dont be tempted to go too low at first, best to reduce gradually. hth ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Right with you there Curveygirl. As I went over this month I'm eager to have another go starting from the 27th (early pay day :) )

    AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE   £115.93/ £250

  • Day 1 again for me today and I have stuff in but nothing to make a full meal of. Might go shopping tonight after tea (we are out for tea tonight) and try not to spend too much. I really want to try the farm shop for meat this month as the Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall program on cheap farmed chicken has made me really not want to skimp on chicken and just buy cheap stuff.

I need to add another few pounds to this month as I ran out of cheese and, er, bought a bottle of wine :o Can't decide what to do next month budget-wise, I don't think I want to cut any more off it as I think that would be unrealistic, I'm even thinking of going back up to £55 or £60 as I think this is manageable, especially as I am well stocked up on pasta, rice etc from this month, so more of the budget can go on nice meat and fish :D I definitely want to carry on doing the challenge though as it really helps to keep me on top of what I'm spending and realise that those odds and ends between big shops really do add up!

  • Hi week three and I managed £41.42 very pleased with that as I had brought extra bits for the summer holidays so was very surprised it had come in under budget, one more week till payday and I'm so excited that I might make the budget if this is the cae I will try to reduce it next month thanks again for all the tips it really has made me think twice before spending unnecessary.

it,s all going pete tong for me right now. After my bragging about how my wastage has dropped to almost zero, it,s back in force. I,m just bracing myself to throw out a rather large portion of chicken curry and another of bolognese. Had my head in the sand this week though, due to having to fork out a conciderable sum of money to a nasty and greedy little ex, but now that I,ve done it I have a new sense of freedom, I believe it,s called poverty in other regions...only joking...sort of. This I hope will strenghthen my resolve to surive without too much disruption to my life, thank goodness I have some good friends who will make sure I dont sink without trace. If I can get through this month I,m home and dry....I hope. AHH lifes a gas init?
