Thanks Lil_me, I had already checked out bigbarn, the place at Carlisle were meant to get back to me months ago about an order its about 18 miles to nearest veg place so travelling is too expensive. There was supposed to be a veg box delivery firm that delivered near here but just like with Tescos we are just outside their area. I will keep pestering them until they give in.

Gemma, these threads do get busy and its very daunting to start at the begnining. ;)

Why dont you start by keeping track of what you're spending over the next week or so, then decide what to set your budget at (dont go too low, do it gradually!) so you can join in on the August challenge.

Best advice I think is to check what you have in the cupboards and freezer and do a meal plan using what you have; then make your shopping list and buy just whats on it. I do weekly meal plan and shop weekly and its brought my spending down dramatically.

Good luck and hope you will join us in August ;)

Thanks rosieben i will do that, I'm a single mum to 20month old twins so as you can imagine most of my money goes on nappies etc, i do a weekly shop and cook everything from scratch so will sit down later and write weekly meal planner. thanks again!! any advice is much appreciated!

Hi Gemma and welcome to the thread. I,m surprized you can sit down at all with two babies of that age:D . I suppose your already a member of such things as the Boots parenting club which give you money off coupons things like nappies and also wee treats for yourself. There are lots of threads on here apart from this one to show how to cut your shopping bill, but this is the friendliest;) . I found tackling the waste in my household made quite a difference along with bulk cooking. Look forward to hearing how you get on with your August challenge, good luck

wow this is a really friendly forum! i'm a member of the boots parenting club. I'm going th try the pin money challenge later too. Not sure if i'm allowed to ask this on here but i get milk tokens and i buy the twins milk(cows) at the supermarket but because my fridge isn't industrial (lol) i always end up popping to the supermarket and getting more during the week which is extra petrol and always tempted to buy, is it worth me getting a milkman?
  • I am finding this whole website absolutely fascinating. I was only told about it an hour ago and already i have completed a "Stock take" of my freezer. I am too embarrased by just how much is in there to list it all. Needless to say i am looking forward to the August challenge. We are going to Disney in November and although we have saved enough to pay the balance we haven't saved a penny for spending money. Hopefully with your support i can make this the holiday of a lifetime we are hoping for.

Gemma firstly welcome, there are many threads on here discussing milkmen and deliveries. A lot have changed over time, it might be worth contacting your local one and asking what they charge (you will of course get the tokens off the order depending how much you order) how often they delivery etc (mine don't deliver daily but many do) and see if it suits you. Won't be long before you'll be toilet training the little ones aswell so you of course have that to look forward to. Good luck with the challenge.

Poohspals, welcome sounds great would love to go there myself, god luck with the saving :)

Did my freezer stock take, woah! It's posted on the second page I think on the Flylady thread, sheesh, I should have done this a while ago. Have now cancelled meat and other food order for this week will be what is needed only!!!! Just worked out a meal plan but still got the fridge and cupboard to do yet! Then will know what I need to go with what is in and be able to do list.
One day I might be more organised...........
