You clearly don't have a behind the scenes understanding of the NHS.

You clearly don't understand that I was 'talking' generally - but Hey! that's no surprise to me.

Complaining about the NHS, as I've found is a complete waste of time. The response you get back follows the same old formula as below.

.......

Like I said, completely pointless. ....
Not in my experience. I have once had reason to complain. I found the process simple and painless. :T
My case was investigated promptly and thoroughly. I got a response from head of the department who sent me a letter of apology and invited me to see him, which I did. :A
;discussion/4892747]Never ceases to amaze me how useless the NHS is in this country. Constantly astounded by the amount of incompetence and laziness displayed by staff.

Have had a multitude of problems with GP over the years...
So, you believe the whole NHS is useless - would that be all staff, including their IT department?

Your complaint appears to be about one GP and possibly one hospital, but you're saying the whole of the NHS across the country is guilty.

Sorry, but if you don't like it, go elsewhere -either a different GP or go private.
The NHS waste money on management and on projects that are sold to them but not properly implemented and invested in. I could make comments with trying to deal with back room staff in their IT department, but that might be near the knuckle.
1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

• I do see your complaint, but what exactly do you want to happen?, your GP would have made the referral and it would have been passed to a medical secretary of the practice, or similar, to send the referral, do you want someone to be sacked because of this error?

At the end of the day, any service that involves humans has the potential for mistakes to happen, errors to be made and omissions, no one is infallible, it just totally grates more when you are human, on the receiving end and in pain as your wife is.

But I'm not sure what you are wanting to happen, a cast iron guarantee that it won't happen again? Someone to be sacked?

One thing that does anger me is this attitude that 'everyone in the nhs is lazy and couldn't give a damn' especially hen I have just got up from a night shift in a very busy cardiac unit, during an extremely busy night where we were 2 staff down and doing our damnedest to keep our patients safe, please don't tar everyone in the nhs with the same brush just because of your experience.

Didnt say everyone. I currently work in NHS (albeit temporarily), my wife is a nurse.

We've experienced the NHS is our area a lot over the past year - both GP and Hospital. I'm sure there a lot of good people in the NHS but I'd say, unfortunately, over half of the people we've met just don't give a stuff about patients.

Im sorry I'm sure you do but a lot dont deserve a job. And yes, mistakes happen because people are human.

BUT, there should be safeguards in place to ensure things dont get missed out. Things like this should rarely happen. Unfortunately, it happens all the time.

Yet to find out where the blame lies at the moment. But, yes, if this person is making mistakes regularly then they are potentially endangering patients lives and should be replaced. Its a hard world but thats the way it works.

And, of course, they never !!!!-up, do they?

NHS IT system one of 'worst fiascos ever, say MPs.

Might add I'm not an NHS employee BTW. More of an outside contractor doing work for a few months.....

You seem to have a very defeatist attitude here. You can't change GPs and you don't even think it's worth complaining to the GP's practice.

Have you actually complained to that GP's practice before? If not, then put in a written complaint. Make it strictly factual, not a moan or a rant, or a claim for compensation. See what response you get.

As previous post, yes we have complained several times. Same answer every time as per my post above.

I think thats part of the problem the local variations. Some trusts are good and take complaints seriously, some dont.

Sorry, but if you don't like it, go elsewhere -either a different GP or go private.

I would complain but it isn't always a simple option to go private (cost)or register with a different GP. It isn't that hard to set up IT systems in a GPs surgery that will manage patient records, repeat prescriptions, letters, test results, appointments etc and many have done that to good effect but there are others who still act as if they are Dr Finlay and it is 1932.

To a large extent the GP has no incentive to improve the service he or she offers. It isn't unknown for a GP to want to get rid of any patient who complains even if this is done in measured and reasonable fashion.
We may treat them differently but patients are customers and are entitled to a decent level of service. To give just one example if I make an appointment and then sit there for an hour something has gone wrong. Of course it is possible to imagine an emergency or a systems breakdown but some surgeries just do it routinely because essentially the patient is there to wait for the GPs convenience.

Changing this culture would be a very positive although not easy step.

Fine by me. Probably agree about the IT. Like I said, I'm not NHS staff but outside contractor.

Will agree that maybe my experience is limited to my local area but other areas (such as Staffs) seem to have it even worse.

Why should I go elsewhere or pay privately if I pay my taxes? Thats the problem - the NHS is held up like this sort of GOD like institution that is so wonderful and is untouchable.

Reality is its not working and needs a massive overhaul including the staff.
