Do you think VOSA will say you win and just forget about it?

    Nope.

But that's how it will be enforced in a weeks time.

Did the salesman force you at gunpoint to buy the car you bought?

Were customers who paid for PPI forced to do so at gunpoint?

I struggle with the concept that PPI payments should be refunded to people who took it out when they didn't need it, but as the precedent has been set, there do seem to be at least some parallels to diesel cars with DPFs. Both are problems that wouldn't have occurred if customers had 'done their homework', but also would be prevented by sales staff fully informing customers of what they were buying.
  • And I remember when an MOT was to make sure your car was fit for the road, now its to make sure your emission laws are being in-forced!!

When my car had the DPF light on there were no illegal tyres, bulbs out, suspension problems, break problems, as I had spent £££ a few days earlier getting anything that needed fixed, fixed as the Mrs needed it for the kids, then a light popped on the dash because the emission's were not within EU spec, this would of been ok but it made the car dangerous to drive as it reduced the power and made it unresponsive when accelerating.

I have also found out since that if the car is not serviced by a Mazda dealer the same thing will happen as it acts as a service indicator, they want £80 to turn it off!!! a bit of wire and knowing where to plug it in can do this for free!!

Diesels will return better mpg. If you dont drive it enough for this to be an advantage that is not the dealers fault and therefore not miss selling. If you wanted to transport a ton of bricks in a fiesta and told tbe dealer thats what you wanted and tbey sold you it for that reason then that would be miselling. All depends what was said at the time of purchase.

I think the dealer should at least tell you about them instead of trying to sell you something that's no good for you.

What about doing your own research before buying?

Same could be said about PPI, why did everyone that took out a loan or credit card not read all the small print or go over all paper work, difference here is I went in asking for a product and got advised the wrong product after explaining circumstance!!

I have a new car on the way and am not going to make a claim, but I do think sales staff should advise better, especially when its the second biggest purchase most of us will make

that's too easy for some people.....if you buy a car/TV/holiday or get a bank loan/credit card.....DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH and stop moaning that you've been mis-sold
  • Lesson learnt, don't listen to people who are there to advise and sell you a product costing thousands of £££.
    DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!!

Thanks for all the input people

what you said there is correct and if you went into the dealers and asked for a town car and the salesman advised you to buy diesel car fitted with a DPF then the advice given was wrong so technically could be seen as mis-selling

how old is the car and what sort of miles are on it?

find out who the dealer principal is at the selling dealers and ask for an appointment with them, express your concerns about the information you gave the salesman nad the car you were advised to buy and see what the dealer principal has got to say

I was advised to go with a Diesel as it was cheaper to run than the petrol equivalent, but as I have found out the petrol would of been the better option as I dont do the mileage and the driving requirements for a diesel.

I do now think is it a manufacturer problem rather than a mis-selling
problem, as pointed out other manufacturers have no problems with there diesels and DPF products.

Dont know what I am going do do with my old car as I wouldn't feel comfortable selling it to someone when the DPF light will go off for all sorts of reasons.

    Advised by whom though?
I have a 2 litre petrol and if I drove it like a 1.4 performance, guess what? I get 1.4 economy, more recently I had use of a 2 litre diesel, yep it gave about 45 mpg vs 41mpg for the same driving routes and times, considering it is only 77% same max power and diesel costs more, the price difference is nothing to even consider.
Anyways you were advised diesel is always more economical and on the board, folk are advising you that this is not the case (or not always) .
Have a look at places like honest john for real mpg on your considered diesels or petrol for that matter.
