Congrats View! I was late feeling proper kicks too, and its really lovely when they finally appear. My baby hates the laptop or any pressure, so if I want to feel him I put the laptop table thing so it's puts some pressure on the top of my tummy and a few minutes later I'll get a complaining kick.0

Thanks lovely! x The consultants have said they don't really raise an eyebrow until 28 weeks for movement so I was trying to be a bit Zen about it but secretly worrying all the time. So many ladies on here have said they felt movement so early... I could have sworn I felt movement at least up to a month ago however when I mentioned to midwife she pointed out that it was most likely my digestive system not the baby! She said we're so conscious of feeling something in our abdomens that we attribute any feelings to baby movement but it's most likely not... especially for a first time mother. We would have felt this a million times in our life but just never paid any attention to it! :rotfl: I'm am relieved and what an amazing wonderful feeling to actually feel it with your hand.. I'm still getting a bit teary just thinking about it!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend... now for another question... all going well with your PG and baby... when are people thinking of leaving work? I'm thinking two weeks before due date...all being well. I don't get mat leave so have been saving up my holidays and have 10 days so far... because of my age the consultants said they won't let me go over my due date so at least I know when I'll be called in..0 -
View there are no NHS classes in my area, only a one day breastfeeding one which takes place about 20 miles away in the middle of the day. The class I go to is just an independent one. I have heard that the NHS classes are very crowded though and there's not much opportunity to get to know anyone.
I'm due on 24 November and hoping to work up until the end of October - however I think I'll probably have to work from home for a week or two before finishing officially. I've got 10 days holiday left so am hoping to use that first at 37 weeks and then start official maternity leave at 39 weeks. That's best case scenario, in reality if I feel the need to go earlier, especially if my back plays up, I won't beat myself up too much.
Why don't you get maternity leave? That's a shame
I'm currently killing myself trying to squeeze in as much overtime as I can manage. Luckily it's all home-based OT and I can put my feet up and sit with my laptop but it's still taxing and making me rather tired.0 -
I read that it's normal to start feeling definite movement somewhere between 20-24 weeks, and thats assuming you DON'T have an anterior placenta. It's hard when people post about feeling the baby half an hour after conception!!
It's probably the first of the many many milestones we can't help comparing through the pregnancy and life of the child!! Wait til people start telling you their kids speak 3 languages by the age of 2...
Re Mat Leave - I've gone very early. Last day was this week at 28+3. Partly as I'm a high risk for early delivery, but even before that I was planning to go by 31 weeks. I want to use all my annual leave before starting Mat Leave, and as the leave year has just started I have 29 days, plus 12 rolled over from last year.
If I go to term, my actual Mat Leave doesn't start until around 19 September. I'm not really planning on going back, so I didn't want any leave hanging around to be paid out at the end (as technically I'm not supposed to roll over so many).0 -

That sounds like a good plan but take care of yourself and don't work too hard x I am a contractor so receive 6 weeks of 90% of my average earnings and then 33 weeks of statutory... not very much money but grateful for anything to be honest. We will manage, I will find a way!
I hadn't thought about there not being NHS classes near to someone, that makes sense to do the other classes absolutely.

Hi all had a physio consult on phone on Fri she is sending me a support belt n have appointment end Aug she put me down for a cancellation if one comes up she agreed group session not suitable for me.
Went to boot sale today some people sell some crap or want alot for it, dirty vests, babygros £1 each despite being bobbly.
Did get 2 next babygro n a vest 0-3mth for£1 as lady had just reduced them down from£2 and half box of lansinoh breast pads for £1 they are individually wrapped so didn't mind open box.
Otherwise brought nothing else I don't mind second hand but like quality for price.0 -
Angel those classes sound good and nice to meet others early on
View how exciting to feel the baby properly! As for NCT I asked my midwife if she thought they were worth it, she hasn't been but said that there are only 2 sessions run by the NHS here so NCT might be better for meeting people. No idea about taking the dad, I just assumed he needs to learn too!
I am thinking of starting maternity leave at end of November and due mid December, was thinking of doing the first week of Dec too but decided it might be too much.
Freebie hope the support belt helps
I am starting to go into panic mode again, have had back ache the last 2 days just down one side and noticed yellow discharge when I went to the toilet. Going to try and get a doctors appointment tomorrow, hoping they may just say its an infection but am already thinking bad thoughts. Are doctors able to check heart beat or is it only midwives who do this? Wondering if it would be worth asking if I do get an appointment to see if they would do it.0 -
Thinking of buying this opinion please

It might just be something like thrush or another infection. I wouldn't worry too much. Back ache is very common in pregnancy as are all these other weird pains and aches you get in your upper and lower abdomen. Are you itchy also? Don't think bad thoughts.. what are you going to do anyway? If you don't have agonising pain and bleeding (plus other symptoms) you should be ok. It might also just be 'one of those things'. I would call your midwife tomorrow however if you have any concerns at all - that's what they're here for! Let us know how you get on. x0
