  • Wait, there's people from Bounty just hanging around the wards waiting for women to have babies, then start taking pictures of them?

delurking to say iv just had my baby 8 days ago and had to stay on the post natal ward for a week and I never had any run ins with a bounty lady. she did approach me on my second day and I gave her my details (id already picked up the other bounty packs during pregnancy so it's not like they didn't already have them). they never came round with a camera ever so maybe they didn't do that at my hospital. it definitely wasn't as bad as people were saying on the mumsnet board, I didn't get harassed.

in fact the pack came in handy when I ran out of nappies once in the middle of the night :-/ I wasn't expecting to be there for a week...!

Yup. Crazy isn't it? The child benefit form is in the pack they give you after the baby's been born and HMRC I believe have a contract with Bounty to distribute the forms in this way - however they obtain your details which are then sold on to third parties. And they also try to sell you photos of your baby. I've read a lot of bad stories where women have said they felt bullied at a time when they were at their most vulnerable.

The child benefit form is available online, so you don't need to hand over your details to Bounty to get hold of one.

ETA: Apparently in my local hospital (Swindon) they are particularly bad, I've heard a few first-hand horror stories.

Just been to the midwife for a routine appointment, was very pleased that the lovely student I saw last time was still there too. They were very kind and let me bore them with my 20 week scan photos :D They found the heartbeat with absolutely no effort this time and had to chase it round as the baby was being naughty and kept wriggling. Everything is fine anyway.

Funny enough they both seemed delighted that we hadn't found out the gender, all the healthcare professionals we've seen seem to love it when you say you're not finding out, they get quite excited at the thought of a surprise. Anyone else found this?

Thanks for the info about Bounty, the more info you can get before the main event the better. The only reason I asked (didn't mean to open a can of worms) is that I mentioned I hadn't recieved the information that others had in the 'white pack' and others on here said for me to chase it up as it had some good money off coupons etc... in it.

Good luck bounty people getting past my Scottish husband... most Scottish people don't put up with any monkey business and will tell you in no uncertain terms... I wonder if the bounty people have been chased from the wards and that's why my midwife said they (as in Edinburgh) don't have anything to do with Bounty anymore!

angeltreats - wonderful news! Glad they found the heartbeat easily. Babbas wiggle about so much, I had to try and keep calm for my first few scans as it was hard for the sonographer to take measurements. Now the wee one keeps turning her back to the scanner wand so hard to see the heartbeat.. I think the babbas just don't like to be prodded! No midwife or doctor/consultant asked me about whether we've found out - just the one sonographer who 'advsied' us what it might be...

fireyfirenze - congrats! hope you're all doing well :T:T

Hope everyone is having a good day x

edit - actually, if the bounty people are around, can you take the packs they give out and either not give info or ask them to not use your info?

Teaandcakeaddict - glad the babies are fine. I didn't realise that some hospitals don't charge for photos. At mine when the 12 week letter was sent this mentioned you must bring £4 for a photo, and that this is the cost per picture and that receptionists do not have change. There is a machine by the reception desk where you have to get a voucher. Glad physio went well and that you are managing to do the exercises ok

Bounty was on Watchdog recently about being an issue on wards. At the moment I am happy getting all the freebies, and not too sure how soon they would hang around as where I am likely to give birth is a midwife led centre and the information says they send you home a few hours after birth if all is ok, so not too sure whether any Bounty ladies will be hanging around as you also have to call for the midwife to attend, so its not like they will be hanging around (or so I hope)

Angel glad your midwife appointment was ok

Toooldforthis - was it a scan you had or just a check up?

AFM lots of cramps today, not sure why, also (sorry for tmi) getting lots of discharge. Dr Google tells me this is ok and is something that happens during pregnancy so hope it is right
  • Tia86 ... it was to see the Dr next scan not til 15th aug seems forever away ! X

    Welcome Lottie

    Yay for team pink chickpea

Nothing much to report here. Not been buying anything just yet though did venture into some baby shops to look at pushchairs. Realised we don't have a clue! Was looking at oyster and petite star but have no idea how you choose. All looked complicated and think we will be practising putting it up and down several times before baby is born.

Lots of people keep saying my bump is really small, am hoping its because I wear baggy clothes to work so haven't been displaying it but beginning to get paranoid that the 20 week scan will show some thing is wrong. Also had booked a holiday the week before scan but starting to worry about that and if it will be too hot.

When did people start feeling movements? Am 17 weeks and read that its any time from now.

    Hope everyone is ok

movements at 19+4 for me. Anterior placenta gets in the way.

Am 27+2 and lots of people still don't notice the bump straight off and say with surprise 'oh' when they do notice or do a double take when I mention it. At 20 week scan all was well. Heartbeat strong at 25 week appointment and measuring normal. So have same thoughts as you in terms of worry and just have to assume I am showing less.

At my ante natal group tonight there was a lady with a lovely roundy bump who was unmistakably pregnant and not just fat. She was 21 weeks, same as me, and all I have is a tiny bump surrounded on all sides by flab. Not Fair At All.
