Thanks cwtw, that does sound good. We're on the list for IVF and I would really, really like to avoid it if possible. If I can't avoid it I would like some way to feel more relaxed and positive about it.0

Thanks fp. We're currently NHS-funded so it's not an issue for another couple of years. I did notice that they refund half your £1,200 if the embies don't survive the defrosting...!
I think our clinic may be on the expensive side - some friends who have had self-funded IVF there paid about £7-8k for a cycle.0 -
People at work talking about drinking. I sooooooooo desperately want a glass of wine now!!0

Hi Pinkteapot
Yes I had blood tests taken over a period of 8 weeks. They discovered I was slightly anaemic but after a course of iron tablets hopefully that is sorted out now. OH and I have also overhauled our diet and are trying to eat more healthy and drink less. My doctor has been very helpful. She's a French lady, she's new to my practice and is very nice. I'm just not sure we are ready for full on "medical intervention" if you know what I mean. I'm very interested in the topic of acupuncture. Is this only suitable for ladies who are having ivf or could anyone try it?
Thanks everyone and baby dust all round :-)0 -
Hi Scottie dog, sorry you have to be here, but hello!
I'm just starting to seriously look into acupuncture. It can be used for lots of fertility reasons, including on blokes, but I can't see many oh's agreeing to that (think they would be worried about where the needles go :rotfl: )0 -

Hello:)
Ooh I didn't realise it could be useful to men as well, there is so much I have to learn! I wonder where they do put the needles :rotfl:
Anything is worth a try!0 -
Scottie, sounds like you had a generic blood test not the ones we are talking about. You can have several tests to see if your ovulating and if there are any other hormonal issues here is what you should get:
- Blood test to see if you are ovulating. This is done by measuring progesterone in a blood sample taken seven days before your period is due.
- Blood test during your period to check for hormone imbalances –measurement of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone, LH (luteinising hormone) and oestradiol. This test can also identify possible early menopause as a cause of subfertility.
- Sperm test to check for abnormalities.

And pink I know what you mean about a drink, we have friends coming over (geeky board games day!) and they will all be drinking beers and I'll be sulking with my tea,,,0

Hi, hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. Just wondered how anyone else deals with the question of drinking alcohol whilst ttc? I don't drink a huge amount but like a glass of wine or two at the weekend. So far I haven't really changed this and just wondered how other folk deal with drinking, particularly in the 2ww. Is it best to avoid alcohol altogether?0
-
I think it depends really, when I started TTC I didn't drink hardly at all in the 2WW but as time went on I didn't really bother as much. You have to be 5 weeks pregnant before the placenta is properly attached and any alcohol can pass to your baby, and you would likely know by then, esp if your watching for it!
There are studies that say drinking can affect fertility though, but my dr actually thought a glass or two was good (just relax!).0
