The Trials & Tribulations of Trying to Conceive when its just not happening (12m+)

Hello all.
He seemed a massive advocate of having a few drinks
All in all nothing new, but its good to have it all checked and not just be told a blank "your fine" (what does FINE mean, it certainly doesn't mean I'm pregnant!). Current plan is to wait till after our holiday in late May then join the IVF train (unless a miracle happens before then!).
Booze has definitely helped me. Every month I've conceived latterly, I've had several benders, including one that involved falling downstairs with a glass of champagne in hand. Has helped implantation/fertilisation, no doubt about it.
That and no exercise (or very limited exercise - walking, yoga, swimming).
Lots of counter-intuitive stuff has helped - for example, I quit fruit (OK all sugar) a year ago, and that is largely what I think altered my ability to conceive.
Your plan sounds good - any chance of a natural BFP between now and then? Knowing you have the IVF option in hand might help you with that elusive 'relaxation'..!
Good luck

chickpea - you can self-certificate for the first 7 days anyway. If you need some more time after that just ask your GP. I deal with fit notes at work and believe me, people get them for a lot less of a reason than what have been through! Sometimes you really just need some time away from work to process things. I really wish I'd done that at the time.0

Hi TL - Thanks, I think I'll do that - I have made a GP appointment for Friday (found a lovely new female GP who doesn't make me feel like I'm wasting her time, so held out for an appointment with her.)
My sick record is just a little bit iffy - had a few weeks off after the MMC in August (that one actually devastated me), then 9 days (with sicknote) after a bout of food poisoning in Oct (I lost 7 pounds in 7 days! All back on now of course) and I had 1 day for the last m/c. It's the cumulative effect that is a bit crushing, plus the realisation that it's probably not just bad luck. I put the m/c leave down as being because of pg, so I know that gets handled differently - just don't want to end up in some sick absence procedure at work, to add to my problems..

Lisa a woman I met in a infertility group had progesterone injections and she said EMLA cream made them painless. Could be worth a try.
Frozen hope you feel better soon and you have good embryos in the morning. It is disheartening to feel you have so few eggs but that doesn't mean this cycle won't be successful. The biscuit will only dare to be just a biscuit when it is with its true friend the potato. (Edward Monkton) :beer:0 -

No, that's the last thing you need! I'm so disillusioned with work at the moment that I think I'm past caring about sickness levels, disciplinaries or anything like that. Hopefully the appt with your GP will be helpful - if they could record this as pg-related again it should keep your 'sickness' level down.0 -

Ha! We still have our fingers (but not legs!!!) crossed. Operation boozy conception initiated... I'm on CD 3 ATM so not much point atm but as soon as I hit the 7 day mark I shall be having a glass of wine at 8 o'clock every night and hoping for the best, who knows right?
I did try to make a joke of it the other day to my accountant OH saying "think of more like saving 5k than making a baby"... He didn't think I was funny..Sometimes you have to make a joke of things! (Or well, I do)

Chickpea Do you not need to be careful with DHEA? I've seen on Fertility Forums that a lot of women in the US swear by it. I used Zita West Supplements, Royal Jelly, Bee Propolis, Vitamins C, D & E, Co-Enzyme Q10 and Folic Acid plus ate a low GI (most of the time) diet and my embryo quality has improved quite a lot. Not sure if any of that will be of any use to you but anything us worth a shot
!
Frozen Hope you are feeling better and more with it now? It is quite disheartening when you don't get as much eggs as you were expecting, I got 7 last time (first cycle) & felt deflated. 5/7 fertilised which is quite a good fertilisation rate as you hear plenty of people who get 18, 19 or 20+ eggs but only 50% fertilise. Remember it's quality of your eggs not quantity!xx
