Got 500g for a pound in a local pound shop, was ever so excited as I haven't seen it anywhere else. They also had bicarb of soda for sale too - much cheaper than buying it in the baking section!
Still don't know of any high street stores that sell it.I love surprises!0 -
Apparently, John Lewis are going to be stocking Borax Substitute.:j0

Oh no. Panic! Ive just run out of borax!
Havent ventured to Tesco to buy some more. Why does borax seem to be disapearing and being replaced by this substitute? Have shops stopped stocking borax altogether?
I hate when shops suddenly discontinue staple items. Ooft.0 -

Yea Borax has been replaced by Borax Substitute due to a reclassification of the mineral. Borax substitute does exactly the same jobs though, apart from killing weeds and ants and being able to make silly putty!0 -
try boots the chemist. certainly very large boxes of bicarb in there. they may do borax in there too.0

So when u mix these 3 powders together how can u be sure the mix is even as i take it u need all three ingredients, and do you have to keep shaking it up to keep it evenly distributed, and is it as effective as the real thing? lol questions questions, i do hate paying so much for wash powder and would love to give this a go .November Wins: 50p voucher Danone

[Also another on eBay, search for the following:
item number 270390126888, "Dri Pak 400g Household Borax Multi Purpose Cleaner" with eBay seller pease-of-garforth-diy. This is more expensive than getting it from the makers, as it is £1.95 each item, with postage £2.50 + £1.30 for each additional item.]
Now is borax substitute0 -
A quick heads up to say that Savers is now stocking Borax substitute now, and I can honestly say there is no difference between this one and the original Borax.Mortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

Thanks for this. Will be up there this weekend, so will pop directly into the shop.
This shop is one of those where you can get everything, a real old fashioned hardware type shop. Been going for donkeys years, and I would rather spend my money there, instead of at one of the big DIY superstores.
If anyone ever visits around Garforth (east Leeds), this shop and Sparks in the mainstreet are well worth a visit. Got a chimney/flue brush last time for a couple of pounds.0 -
He just emailed me unfortunately that he's out of real Borax, and its now substitute. You must have grabbed the last!
The dri-pakltd ebay seller still has some more by the looks.

I know boots had a load of real Borax that they were trying to get rid of, but i'm not sure if they still have it or not. Worth a try though! Have you tried the new Borax Substitute?0
