where to find BORAX

Anyone know the difference between borax and borax substitute?
Several posts seem to have been removed (including two of mine, no idea why as they were direct responses to other posts and contained no abuse or bad language, but apparently the new way of doing things does not include giving advice to posters who unknowingly transgress)0 -
mine was also deleted by looks of it, i think it may be possible that it is a weaker strentgh maybe:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

weaker would be ok, but I used Borax as an ant killer as well as in laundry, and I only used it in laundry because it dealt with perspiration as well as being a mild bleach.
"substitute" should mean that it fulfills all the functions of the previous product, but I doubt if it does, so I wondered if anyone understood the chemistry and could give us all some hard and fast info?0 -
Borax is an ingredient in moisturisers, I wonder if you'll still be able to buy it from cosmetic suppliers.0

morrisons it's called bio-tex:)0

hey, thanks everyone, I havent been on for a while. sorry if this question has been asked before, I did try the search facility but nothing came up for borox. I am not sure about the chemistry bit, I know its mildly toxic to children and animals, i have none, also that it cleans, deoderises, kills mould and mildew, also fungal?
not sure
any way thanks again.

Looks like these will be the last stocks of Borax anywhere in the country for the likes of you and me! (Thanks to the EU).

If you don't need the anti-bacterial action ie you're using it for laundry, you can get the Borax substitute http://www.dri-pak.co.uk/borax-for-laundry.html0 -
Only the real thing can be used for killing insects eg ants.0

You're right...and weeds! That's why some people have been trying- often in vain - to find remaining stocks.0

Try looking under the chemical name for it, sodium tetraborate, and you will still be able to find it for sale.
I use it for my work in preserving bird skins and the substitute is unsuitable."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0
