    proper procedures are followed throughout the filling operation, eg dispenser nozzles are correctly inserted, delivery hoses are not stretched or kinked and tripper latches are not wedged open;

    Speculation, but the garage attendant should have seen....

    So, as well as taking payment and dealing with costumers in the shop, switching other pumps on etc, the attendant has to scrutinise every fill up minutely, from start to finish?

    How does this apply to unattended pumps. I am pretty sure that at our local Asda there a 4 pumps that are the pay at pump type, which are operational 24hrs, despite the kiosks being unmanned over night.

    No, you claimed that it was obvious physics and that it was correct. It is inaccurate, whether you are non-technical or not.

    It's like you saying that grass is blue, and I say no, it's green, then you say that blue is a colour, so that's accurate enough for non-technical people.

    Not inaccurate enough to make the slightest difference. Your analogy is completely over the top.

    There, I've corrected it for you. (Just in case you didn't know the difference between rules and guidance).
