This is not aimed at the OP but just an observation
The world has gone compensation mad, nobody will take responsibility for their own actions, this in turn leads to the abundance of ridiculous disclaimer signs and warning signs0 -

This post by you simply proves the mentality I was taking about earlier.
Yes you always do thank others who are rude to people coming here for advice or have the same views as yourself.
Just because you agree with a post it doesn't mean it's right.0 -
If you live in a country where the petrol stations don't have auto cut offs there you are going to be extremely careful. In this country they all have these devices fitted to the pumps so we tend to rely on them.
I drive a lot of miles and always fill my tank and I can only recall one occasion when the cut off didn't work in the last 15 years.
At the end of the day if a safety device is fitted it should work. If the OP didn't use the pump properly they should be shown the video.
I don't rely on auto cut off (actually find it quite annoying as it usually cuts off miles before you're anywhere near the top). Personally never noticed if any of them have failed to cut off the fuel as I never rely on it...
The "safety" feature isnt there for the driver. Its there to help combat the problem of drivers who dont pay attention when filling their car. Can you honestly say that the highly flammable liquid shouldnt be a top priority when deciding what to pay attention to?
OP can see the video....they just need to send a subject access request along with the fee (£10 - ironically the amount refunded for wasted diesel)Best hurry though in case they don't keep cctv long.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

The person working in the petrol station has a duty of care and they should have a clear view to all pumps. They should have noticed if the OP wasn't using the pump properly and not switched the pump on.0 -
You probably don't fill your car up every time then.

OMG, you're that anti retail employee you just make any old rubbish up!
Zandoni, the stuff you post here is just becoming a joke now, everyone can see why you post and the bias it has. That's why you get the reaction you get to each of your posts.0 -
Do I read the thread right? The pump dribbled petrol while the op wasn't looking at it? This can happens to anyone surely. The op should take responsibility for it, and learn from it..0

Zandoni, the stuff you post here is just becoming a joke now, everyone can see why you post and the bias it has. That's why you get the reaction you get to each of your posts.- each vehicle and the person using a dispenser can be seen and that your view is not obstructed;
- proper procedures are followed throughout the filling operation, eg dispenser nozzles are correctly inserted, delivery hoses are not stretched or kinked and tripper latches are not wedged open;
- at filling-stations the loudspeaker system and any closed-circuit TV is working correctly;
- vehicle engines are switched off when at the dispensers;
- people under the age of 16 do not buy petrol or operate dispensers;
- no one smokes in the vicinity of the dispenser (ie in danger zones);
- no one uses portable electric/electronic equipment such as a CB radio or portable telephone;
- people wishing to fill containers with petrol use only those which are approved.
