Guidance Zandoni, not liability if a customer cocks it up!
You accuse me of being anti retail staff but it's you that's anti customer. Neither of us was present when the OP filled there car but you just blindly agree with the garage.
I back the customer because I feel that if the OP made the mistake the garage would be happy to show them the video. Lets face it why run the risk of losing a customer if you don't have to.
In your reply please try to be a less hostile.0 -

Have you any idea of the multiple jobs/positions that go in the retail trade?
I've never met you, I can only make my judgement on the way you speak to people here.
I know lot's about the retail trade from friends who work in stores, even done a bit myself in my time,0 -

Zandoni, I know you think people in retail just live behind tills in shops but has it occurred to you that I might use a Supermarket? Has it occurred to you I have bought phones, TV's, Cars, the list is endless.
Hang on? Doesn't that make me also a customer?
Zandoni! I think we've discovered a breakthrough in complaining, perhaps the people who work in retail are also customers? Maybe, they have insights to a situation as a consumer as well. But with also working in both worlds they have the unique ability to see the best of both worlds! In other words perhaps you shouldn't dismiss the opinions of people who work in retail like you have but perhaps listen, because they may have valuable insight on how to approach a situation to get the best result.

I don't think a petrol station will mind if they loose one customer in all fairness.
We had a local station refuse cctv to us when someone backed a car in to my other halfs car, they did not care and said they could only show police.
I think the fact the op got £10.00 was actually rather lucky considering the obvious lack of attention being paid to the task in hand.
I think the op has run a mile from this thread now anyway.0 -
Yes, that seems reasonable they would only show the police, where's the problem?0

We all have different ways of seeing things and I fully appreciate that lots of customers try things on all the time. But the problem is you can get in the position where you think every customer is a con man.
Neither of us knows what truly happened in this thread but this forum upsets me when everyone jumps on someone coming here for advice.0 -
That's a bit different, this wasn't really related to a dispute between the petrol station owners and customer.I don't think a petrol station will mind if they loose one customer in all fairness.

Yes lots are like that and that would make them so much harder to know when they are full without an auto stop.
Name one car manufacturer who have a tapered tank with an integrated spout in a midern car. Oh, and provide a link to back up you claim.
You seem hell bent on accusing everyone of being hostile, yet you're the one making things up.
Since you believe certain people on here are "shop assistants", I'd suggest that some on here are ambulance chasing lawyers.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

Because being naive at the time we thought if there was clear evidence on cctv of somebody reversing one car in to a stationary car at a petrol station we might be able to obtain it to show proof seeing as the guy that did it simply then drove to the next pump and when confronted with an upset woman... Flatly denied it ever happend, paid, and drove off.
(the rear door completely stored in with children in the back)
We thought it would be common sense.... Obviously not.
It matters not as we did get the reg of said car and reported it, eventually he admitted fault and we were paid out etc.
I was merely pointing out that petrol stations don't like just showing anyone cctv footage, weather they loose customers or not.
I do realise the circumstances are different though in this case.
I still think in reality the op who regularly fills the car should have realised it was full.0
