Hi all need advice /opinions:
I filled up at a large supermarket petrol station
The pump failed to cut off, I only realised when the diesel war running out downside of my car.
Told staff, unhelpful and no manger around ,had to wait 20 mins for a manger to come from nearby store, nearly missed school pickup.
Manager gave me £10 off for wasted diesel, however my new leather ugg boots which my husband had saved for for my Christmas present are ruined.this happened at 2pm yest , no call back as promised,so rang supermarket customer service &they said they would pass to claims handler and to leave it with them don't discuss with store.
Petrol station called today and said pump has no fault and ccv shows nozzle wasn't in properly !
To give some context I drive over 500 miles a week for work do know how to fill my car up !
What should I do! Upset as can't afford to replace boots .

How did your husband pay for the boots? May be worth checking if there was any kind of insurance on the boots purchase. I know a one point my debit card would cover an item over a certain amount within 90 days of purchase, but that was a few years ago.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Surely you must realise that a little bit of attention is needed when fueling up a vehicle and if you had been concentrating, you would have been able to release the handle before the diesel had a chance to pour down the side of the car and over your boots.0 -
The gurgling noise didnt alert you to something being wrong? Which direction were you looking whilst filling?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Yes I wasn't staring down at the pump , but isn't that the whole point of the cut out ? As a safety mechanism ? I was looking at the reader to keep an eye on the cost which I think you will find a lot of people do when filling the car up.Grocery Challenge Feb 14 £500 / Spent £572.10!

I don't understand how many miles you drive a week for work helps prove your capability for filling your car up correctly and without fault?
Somethings are just accidents, if they say they have it on cctv that you hadn't inserted the nozzle correctly then you will most probably have no claim. Call them back and ask to view the tape.0 -
The cut out mechanism was never designed to protect the users footwear.0

Before the 'cutout' existed I'd never sprayed petrol over my shoes...We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

What exactly is it for then ! I thought it was to cut off the fuel when the car was full.
I really wanted some constructive feedback like some people have given, such as insurance on purchases or viewing the CCTV , not just unhelpful comments! Don't usually get that on here.Grocery Challenge Feb 14 £500 / Spent £572.10!

Q. When I filled my tank with diesel the pump did not cut off when my tank was full and fuel spilt everywhere?
A. Much of the diesel now sold includes some bio diesel which is made from waste vegetable oil and is much more environmentally friendly than ordinary diesel. However, it can cause the filters in the pumps to clog up, which in turn restricts the flow of fuel through the pump. If the flow of diesel is too slow, the cut-off mechanism on the nozzle will not work. If this happens to you report it to the garage as it is likely that the pump will require maintenance. You can however be reassured that you will not be receiving short measure as the pump will only register the fuel which passes through the meter regardless of the speed of delivery.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them.
