I think you answered your own question there. Why do you think your mum moaned at him for getting oil on his clothes
Because it was unpleasant to do where as the overalls were dealt with by the client so didnt stink out the car/ house or become her job.
The OP said the boots were ruined, I was questioning that statement0

I just can't see how someone who fills up so regularly and knows their car would fill until the diesel was dripping out of the tank.
You can SAR the supermarket. But tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if CCTV comes down on there side.
So you'd have to file a small claim.0

I would think with a pair of UGG boots they fuel would soak through but if they are treated leather the soaking will be minimal but will have stained..they will most certainly stink.
If the OP comes back....most dry cleaners now do specialist UGG boot cleaning you could see if they will at least compensate for that...if they are at fault of course.0

Put nozzle in car and start filling. Divert attention to attractive person at adjacent pump.
 Easily done.0

See I don't get it. I always make sure I'm 100% on the ball in the station. Considering how dangerous and damaging fuel is.
I've got a diesel my oh has a petrol. I alway triple check I've got the right pump and watch what I'm doing as my tank easily takes 4x what his will. So I'm cautious.
 OCD? or Sensible?0

It is the pump/car interface that is the problem here.0

Plenty of people start looking around them when filling the car..i drove a petrol engine for 25 years so it's just habit...but as my new car wont let me actually fit a petrol nozzle in im not danger of putting in the wrong fuel ....
 i suppose we can't all be perfect!:D0

 I'm not perfect....:D
I genuinely don't get how you can over fill a car so much, it's got to be user error surely.0
