That's fabulous. Told you she'd probably be delighted
As children (even grown up ones!) we're still very sensitive over things like this with family members.
I bet you have the best time - and I like your thinking. I'd much rather have my own space/bolt hole! Perfect

That's great news, i think you will have a fab holiday, the best of both worlds!0

Excellent, glad it's all sorted0

Well done! It's not always easy to broach subjects you're upset about.
I think you've got the best of both worlds. Family there when you want company and your own space when you need a break.
Have a fab trip!0 -
I am really glad you asked
I've done this in Florida - joined for part of the holiday and done my own thing for the rest of the time. Orlando is really spread out especially some of the villas don't have hotels really close by so you might want to think about car-hire so you have the freedom to join/go off as you please- Once you know where the villa is you can make plans. Although the Orlando thread here is good I suggest you take a look at http://www.thedibb.co.uk/ especially the forums which will tell you absolutely EVERYTHING
Yes, I'm going to need to do a lot of research as it is the transport bit that concerns me, as I don't drive so I will have to look into whether there is public transport, how much taxis are, etc. I haven't managed to get hold of my sister yet so still don't know where they are staying - a colleague who has been to Florida a few times said most of the villas are in Kissimee and most of the hotels in International Drive, but my mum said she thought they were staying at ID. Then again, she doesn't know much about it so might be wrong!
But I'm not going to start panicking unnecessarily - first step is to talk to sis and find out exactly where their villa is.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
If your family's accommodation is a villa let through an agency or part of a complex, it may be possible to upgrade to a larger one when you arrive, or by phoning or emailing the accommdation's own receptionist before you go. Lots of the Orlando villas are let in that way, and it'd be a much cheaper way of getting a bigger villa than amending the family's booking with the travel agency.0

That's true from my experience. International drive was developed for tourists earlier and is more built up. Getting about without a car will be very difficult, it's pretty much taxis or nothing. The Americans only really bother with public transport in the main cities and even then it's not like here!
I think you need to speak to your sister, when she knows you are interested in coming I would hope that she'd want to try and find a way to easily include you, that might be an upgrade or it might be that you can sleep on a sofa bed or similar in the current villa.
I'd worry that being so separate from the rest of them might lead to you feeling excluded and a bit forgotten about once you're there, which would be horrible for you.0 -
I'm so glad! Now enjoying planning and going on your holiday . Xxx

Just to update this:
I spoke to sis and my BIL called the holiday co and got me into their accommodation (which it turns out is an apartment in a complex on International Drive after all) I looked for flights and have found two that match with their timings. My mum has said she'll lend me the money to book the flights now, and the apartment is on BIL's credit card, and they both said I can pay them monthly or give them the money on the holiday. (See that's the part that would have been sticky, within 3 months I'd have the savings to pay it all upfront but at the moment I don't.)
So everything is going well. I'm so excited about the holiday, the rest of them are pleased I'm joining in, we chat about it a lot and it's brought us closer.
Now I'm really motivated to save my money & hit the gym!Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0
