I received an acceptance email on the day I applied for the co-op account about 3 days ago, then today I received a debit card but no welcome pack yet with instructions on the switching process.
Do I just wait till the Welcome Pack arrives?
Anyone else had the debit card arrive before the Welcome Pack?
    :)

I haven't got my welcome pack yet or PIN, but my debit card arrived yesterday. I rang up and did the switch yesterday, I didn't have any issues.
  • Thanks so much AlwaysLearnin and Myth123 for your replies.I will call them up and start the switch ball rolling.
    :)

I've now called up and 'switched' does anyone one know whether the £800 credit you have to put into the CoOP to get the £100 has to stay there, or does a in and out scenario cover this?
If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)

we are not talking about where the payment comes from, the issue is what is it. If a FP turns up for £800, how are they to know what the payment is for ?

I have not read or heard that there is any stipulation as to where the initial 800.00 is funded from, merely phrase used " This could be a regular payment into your account, like a salary or pension", they will know the 800.00 is to meet 100.00 switch offer conditions.

To best of my knowledge previous references to credit to account via Employer/Benefits/Pension relates to what Coop would like to see as part of its overall 100.00 switch offer.

I haven't got a current account that I'm willing to use for a switch, so I was thinking about opening a sacrificial account with another bank. I appreciate applying for current accounts will show on my credit file, but assuming it can take the hit, are there any other reasons why I shouldn't?

If not, then would it be worth leaving the sacificial account open for a few months before applying for a switch? Or could it be done almost immediately after it's been opened?

Only risk I can see is that the sign-up incentive might have been withdrawn by the time your sacrificial account is ready for switching. Though another suitable offer might come along, who knows.

Although another risk could be that they wouldn't consider this as your main account and not pay up.

I opened a basic account, with Santander last week when I first spotted this offer for the same purpose. It was open within a week and I already have two direct debits setup on there. A few days later I opened the co-op bank account (you have 14 days to do the switch). I received the co-op debit card yesterday. Still waiting on the pin and welcome pack - then I will call and switch from Santander.

Sorry Santander - I don't really like you anyway! I think I will just keep the co-op account open ready for the next switch offer that comes along.

I've just telephoned the Co-op and set up the switch from my Nationwide account which will soon reach its 12 month anniversary and so the 5% interest will cease.

I feel a tiny bit guilty as I took the £200 offer a couple of years ago and then closed the account. I'll get over it though.

The actual telephone conversation was easy but lengthy (about 20 minutes altogether). I set up internet banking and said this would be my main account. No questions about where it would be funded from.

    An easy £100.

Hi coollittlelew, I just got my debit card and phoned Co-op Bank to switch.(didn't bother waiting for welcome pack or pin) Very straightforward, and asked to register online too.In total took 11 mins from start to finish.:)
  • Just applied and got accepted for a smile current account. Only problem is I want to switch from Citibank, I don't think that there part of the new current account switching scheme so I'm unsure whether this will work. I tried to open an additional secondary account with the Halifax but got told I would be notified of the outcome within a week, The only reason I wanted that is that I could switching hundred pounds.
