If the £800 (let's call it £820.97 to be more realistic) was your 1st salary credit following the switch, would you also consider it "safer" to leave it there?

The last Co-op switch I did I deposited £800, and removed 1 day later (purely because their systems were slow to update), for 3 months until they paid the incentive. I then didn't use the account at all for 2-3 years until closing it late last year.

I opened another Co-op account yesterday, and will operate it exactly the same...except this time I'll get my £100 a lot sooner (45 days after the switch date, so around 8-10 weeks!)

I have just phoned co-op to start the switch and they said I need to ring barclays (the account I am closing) to inform them that I will be switching before I start the switch with them. I assumed I could do it all over the phone with co - op. Does anybody have the number for co-op account switch team, as I was passd to several different people who didn't seem to have a clue. Thanks

Erm...that sounds quite strange. It's certainly not my experience of switching although I have never switched from Barclays. I would try my luck and phone the co-op again...my guess is the rep was ill informed. ;)

Anyone else have any comments? :)

Thanks, I rang back and it appears it was just a one-off. Switch date set for next Monday. Hmm, we'll see....

I have a Nationwide Flex Direct which is my main account and which I want to keep.

I was thinking of opening a new bank account, setting up two DDs and switching to Coop for the £100. However, it might be faster to open another Flex Direct account as I'm an existing Nationwide and then switching to Coop from that. Would that work or would coop expect me to close and end my involvement with Nationwide?

Yes that would work. As part of the switching process, the only account that is closed is the one that is being switched away from, so the other FlexDirect would remain open.

Do you have to phone up to get Internet banking details? I first applied about a fortnight ago and I've received my card and pin

I asked whilst on the phone setting up the switch process.

Assuming you've already registered to switch, you'll probably need to call to register for online banking. If not, register at the time you request the switch.

Be warned they'll ask for your security details and pin over the phone.
