To me by booking the 2017 fix rate that automatically starts at the end of my current April 2014 deal , is a " nothing to lose, all to gain safe option" but if in the meantime I do find something better , I can simply move on for free, and if not I stay knowing that i have a booked rate waiting to go onto, even if it does get removed soon and prices rise again, im ok !!!.

I have done this too, but they have signed me up to a direct debit which is twice as much as I am paying now. In the meantime, I signed up to a collective quote process, which shows that British Gas are offering the best deal on Discount Fix May 2015 and this seems more attractive, at least in the short term. I am worried about BG though- has anyone got anything good to say about them.? EDF have been 'ok' in terms of customer service.

Transfer from EDF to OVO in train. They do at least answer the phone whereas EDF has always been a bit hit and miss. The online discount is applied at the time of the monthly payment calculation. It threw me a bit when I was doing my sums. For me, OVO through to Jun 16 works out at £228.20 more expensive whereas with EDF 2017, I would have to pay £464.80. An extra £236 for 9 months extra of fix just doesn't make sense. As others have said, if it all goes pear-shaped, then the 'get out of OVO fine' is £60. If I cancel OVO after 10 months, then I would be no worse off than if I had gone for the EDF 2017 fix with its no exit fees clause.

I am in exactly the same position. I have signed up with British Gas for dual fuel on the Discount Fix. The estimates show that BG will be only £50 more than Daligas and Ovo, but for the ease of having just one supplier and the fact that I had no complaints with BG in the past, I decided to go with them.
Here's hoping it all goes smoothly!!!

I applied yesterday to switch to OVO 12 month fixed tariff, with the 4 to 5 week switching period reported on here it could go through in the 1st week of April.
OK I could have waited a few more weeks to maximise my lower EDF tariff period but the OVO offer is far better for me than anything else showing on the cost comparison sites, so I was concerned that the fix at the current tariff may not be around much longer.
The extra cost on my energy consumption is around £9.50 per month but I should get £32 cashback as I switched through the Topcashback site.

Update to my switch from EDF Price Promise Apl 2014 to OVO 12 month Fix:

28/02/14 - Applied online via Simply Switch on Topcashback.

04/03/14 - Received email from OVO, asked to check details. Address was incorrect (missing road name, probably my fault during online application?), phoned up and was well received by OVO telephonist (only rang for about 30 seconds before answer) telephonist tried several options for me and got me a person to help me, this only took about 3 minutes and I never felt like they had 'forgotten' about me. Person I was put through to changed my address details as requested. First impression of OVO was good.

11/03/14 - Received welcome pack from OVO through post. Easy to understand letter, a street talky yuff style but clear. Stated change over date of 2nd April. So for those of you trying to time it as close to the end of April as possible about 5 weeks before i.e. 24th/25th/26th March but of course time could go up as end of April rates come to an end.

12/03/14 - Used details supplied in welcome pack to register online, I managed to register online without any problem (I used normal OVO website not 'beta' address stated)

In summary so far so good and good initial impression of OVO, hope the rest of the switch goes OK.

As a holding measure, I have signed up to move to EDF Fixed Price June 2015 (no termination fees) when my current EDF fixed tariff ends on 30 April. Keeping an eye open for better options as end of current fix approaches. Just been on energyhelpline comparison site and ExtraEnergy fixed price September 2015 (£25 early termination for each fuel) would be c £190 pa cheaper than the EDF June 2015 tariff and be fixed for longer. Their service rating on energyhelpline as 3* is also better than EDf 2*.
Seems tempting, but I do not recall seeing extraenergy appearing before and it is referred to as a new UK energy company.
Wondered if anyone had experience/info on them or was also consideration switching to them.
