Current EDF Fix coming to an end

JJ Egan - You may well be right. I guess that I just wanted to retain some flexibility, without incurring cancellation fees, if another supplier offered a 'better' fix deal during May/June 2014 & my usage should be lower in Spring/Summer months...0

Just signed up to ExtraEnergy Sep15 for elec and Zog 12m for gas, OVO not an option for my post code.
Current £1267
Cheapest dual fuel ExtraEnergy Sep 15 £1374
EDF Jun15 £1456
EDF Mar17 £1580
Extra/Zog single fuels £1276
So £9 pa more than current (+ the loss of £25 Santander 123 DD cash back as they are not supportedbut who knows in the future). £15 cash back from EnergyHelpline for elec switch, not available for Zog. My customer number from Zog is below 700  Shall see how they go on CS if needed but they can't be much worse than the others.

Why are you torn? If the cashback has to be included to be £10 cheaper for Ovo then surely the Extra Energy is the better deal?
The real consideration is come Summer 2015 if you wait until August to look for a new deal you may have missed by weeks deals closed that summer before the autumn price rises.
Thank you for pointing out that the cheaper summertime deals will have gone when the Extra Energy tariff ends in Sept. 2015 as I had also been deliberating between Ovo and Extra Energy.
My figures:
Ovo Cheaper Energy Fixed (April) = £38 more per year
EDF 2015 Fixed (June) = £110 more per year
Therefore Ovo is £72 a year cheaper for me than staying with EDF but ONLY with the £60 discount, and if I don't cancel the tariff early and incur a £60 charge.
My main concern is that the £60 online discount for both fuels with Ovo depends on the ability to wholly manage the account online and the possibility of losing this discount should a circumstance occur which warrants this loss.
Has anyone found out what happens if you HAVE to ring them instead? Also does this include phone calls made before the switchover date?
Thanks0 -
I hope not! I had to call them as my DD wasn't setup for the day of the month I had asked.
I suppose we'll see when they generate my first statement. I made one phone call to see why my electricity didn't seem to have transferred over.
I've also sent an email which has now been answered. However quickest replies were via their Facebook page and they seemed on the ball.0 -
just been on the phone to iron out some concerns with Ovo while considering to switch to them, which I thought I'd share given this thread especially has been a source of help..
the main one - the early termination fee - they've advised that should I move house within the term of my contract, then SO LONG AS I choose to continue that Ovo contract at any new address for the rest of the duration of that contract, I will NOT be charged any termination fees.
Also re: the online tariff - I would have the availability of the Ovo phoneline to discuss any issues I have with my contract/tariff if for whatever reason they cannot be resolved online - and this would not result in any penalty (e.g. loss of online-only bonus). I'd still double-check that upon phoning them if you needed to, but...
now just to decide 12 or 24 months..0 -
Well yes but you will be of course paying more now in the hope you are ahead of any future rises .
Not a bet i was willing to make at EDF 2017 prices as would be paying an extra £140 this next twelve months .
Its not me that will hope what happens in 2015 is not BIG energy price hikes, especially as government tries to dictate to energy companies, your tariff that will expire then, but if you see it coming , and wanting to move early it will cost you £60.
Your saving is far more than mine than with OVO, so I can understand your switch in a sense.
But I know what I will be paying until 2017, for that piece of mind I am willing to pay an extra £20 a year.As above, Blue 2017 comes at a considerable premium. What you are effectively doing is buying an expensive insurance policy for 3 years. For my region the average differential vs EDF's 2015 fix is £140 also-and that itself is no longer a competitive tariff against other suppliers.
As you say, it does come down to region, my region for OVO seems higher than most others .
Its down to individual’s circumstances, I will pay an extra £20 a year with EDF fixed till 2017.
Im sure we can go on and pursued ourselves we got the best tariff, when the fact is, we all have different circumstances, so best for one is not so for another
See you here all again in 2017 ( or 2015 for some )0 -
It looks like I'm switching from EDF April 2014 fix to Ovo fix, but can't decide whether to fix for 12 months or until 30 June 2016. Longer fix is estimated to be £26 more over the term, which equates to roughly a 5% price increase in the second year, which sounds reasonable, but anyone got any thoughts? Will 30 June be early enough to catch the fixes in 2016 before the pre-autumn price rises?0

Extra twenty a year are you 100% sure .
For an extra £20 a year fixed to 2017 no other company would have a fixed tariff customer .0 -

Which is ludicrous, because should you move, you will be in a deemed contract with the existing supplier at the new property. It would take 4-5 weeks to switch back to Ovo. You can't just 'port' accounts in the manner that they are suggesting. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
