Or to put it another way, DD'S are 25% lower during the summer months. They don't just divide annual estimated billing by 12 to calculate the monthly DD.

That's exactly what they did to calculate my DD. I've just joined, so in "summertime", and DD was based on annual consumption divided by 12.
That way there's less chance that you'll be in credit during the summer months-which means of course that they'll be paying less interest at 3%. Cunning...

The whole idea with Ovo is that you are in credit during the summer months so that you can build up that credit to be used in the winter months. Ovo do not want you in a debit situation.

If you join in their "wintertime", the DD will be set 25% higher than is necessary so that you will not build up a debit on the account.

    Unnecessary arithmetical pedantry alert:

    You can't commute percentages like that. You mean 20% lower. X / (1.25 * X) does not equal 0.75. :)

I'm torn between OVO and Energy Extra. Taking cashback and the £60 online only discount into consideration OVO works out only £10 less over a year but for 12mths only whereas Energy Extra will be fixed till Sept 2015.

Why are you torn? If the cashback has to be included to be £10 cheaper for Ovo then surely the Extra Energy is the better deal?

The real consideration is come Summer 2015 if you wait until August to look for a new deal you may have missed by weeks deals closed that summer before the autumn price rises. And in such situations it is often better to take the hit of the early learning penalties and snap up a newer fix. (Unless you have a very low consumption.)

My concern is that Extra Energy do not have any way to sign up via their own website and their prices are not on there either.
Also, taking into account about fixing again before autumn 2015 price rises if I go for Ovo 12mths now I wont have that problem of the opt out fees.

    UPDATE:
My switch date was to be 2nd April but in the middle of last week (25th March) the OVO wiggly time line showed meter readings were due but I couldn't see how to do it, also EDF site showed contract closed. I noticed on Friday a meter submit button at the bottom right hand side of the wiggly time line so gave meter readings to both OVO and EDF.
I have not had an email from either so far requesting a meter reading and I'm not sure when the actual change over date is/was.
I'm not sure if I close the EDF direct debit ( I owe £45 after my latest meter reading) or if the final direct debit for EDF settles my dues. Very little info from EDF apart from sorry you're leaving email.

I have not had an email from either so far requesting a meter reading and I'm not sure when the actual change over date is/was.

My switch date was given as 19th March. I received an email on the 16th March to give them meter readings. I had noticed the Submit button appear a couple of days before the 16th but waited till I was asked.

I gave both electricity and gas that same day - 16th March. On 23rd March I noticed the MyOvo sire had updated and was still asking for electricity readings with 0 days left to give them. Looking further it seemed to be saying that I don't have electricity with them. My parents account is showing exactly the same thing - they had the same switch date as I was handling both.

I gave the electricity readings again on the 23rd March but today it's still not changed. I did phone them last week to be told that the readings are sent off to be verified and they can take different times to do this. I've now sent an email.

My old E.On account says that I cannot give readings any longer and should submit them to my new supplier. It still shows electricity with them but won't allow a reading. My DD with them is always taken on the 1st of the month so I'm waiting to see what will happen. I've also emailed them.

I'm not sure if I close the EDF direct debit ( I owe £45 after my latest meter reading) or if the final direct debit for EDF settles my dues. Very little info from EDF apart from sorry you're leaving email.

Normally I would expect to leave the DD open till after the final bill from them.

Thanks for the info. Both EDF and OVO shows that both my Gas and Electricity changes have gone through. The OVO site (wiggly time line) says that in 4 to 6 weeks I will have full access to their site.

Absolutely disgraceful, that; penalising those who just want to get their children's education off to a good start. Shouldn't be allowed.

Just had the email from OVO to ask for readings. My switch is due 2nd April.

Are people using the current or beta ovo site to give readings?
