I keep looking at my spreadsheet (I did one and cross each day off) and thinking "There is no way I will be able to run for 2 mins..... EVER!"

i remember that feeling too. two things for you to try....

    1) stop looking at the watch/clock. if you are running outside, choose a landmark and run to that. or run until you just cant go on any further. its amazing, but watching the clock on the treadmill makes things harder not easier.

if you run indoors, face ahead, and run until the end of the song on your mp3 player. 3 minutes - as easy as that!

    2) run slower. i eventually admitted that i just did not have the stamina for the speed i was trying to run at. by slowing the pace down, i can go further and for longer

I run outdoors and do use a stopwatch. I tend to run to the exact second that I am supposed to. I will try slowing down tonight when I go.

    Thanks for the advise.

Happy birthday for next week (It's mine on Friday)

Have you signed up for a 5K or do you have a reward for yourself at the end of the program?

Thanks, I will still go to the gym to keep up with the Running made easy plan.

And it means I won't feel bad if I eat cake!

Really well. I do love it. In fact got up at 6am this morning to do half of my daily run and will do the full one tonight.

What I am miffed about is putting on weight? I am so disheartened. I gave up smoking middle June and can feel my clothes getting tighter.

i found i did as well, because runnng made my appetite go through the roof, so im eating more, but i wasnt necessarily eating the best stuff!

trying to break the cycle now, unfortunately the weight doesnt come off as quickly as it goes on  not that i have much to complain about, im under 10 stone, but i feel big compared to the twig like thing i used to be :D

another thing to bear in mind is that muscle weighs more than fat, so this can make the scale reading look scarier that it actually is! a good guide is to check you BMI and measure you main body areas (arms, chest, tummy, hips, thighs) to see how you loose the inches through running even if the weight loss is not so rapid.

I just found this thread. Could we keep it going as a sort of support group do you think? I've just recently started running although I've been going to the gym for over a year now and I'm surprised by how hard I'm finding it. By the time I've run for a minute I can hardly breathe and my heartrate is around 185bpm and my heart feels like it's about to jump out of my chest. Please someone reassure me that this is normal.

I'm thinking of trying a 5k in late august by the way, even if it's walking some and running some. What are others aiming for, if anything?

On the bright side I do recover fairly fast

    Yep Good idea.

I am following the "Running Made Easy" book. I do run outside

I am currently on week 5 which is run 60 sec walk 2 mins x 9

I would like to aim for a 5k in Sept/Oct.

I don't know what my BPM is. I can run for a minute without feeling out of breath and my heart feels fine. I am an ex smoker (gave of 4 weeks ago) of 20 a day.

Why don't you ask your gym if it is normal?
