Early last year, when I was living with my parents and trying to save for a house, this thread was a godsend. It really motivated me in shifting my debts and focusing on money saving.
As I'm a teacher and work can get kind of hectic as exams approach, I never got chance to say thank you for the thread and to Ninja Saving Kat for encouraging me to pay off debt, tackle my spending and save for my house. I spent much of last summer doing extra exam marking which allowed me to put down a 10% deposit on my new house. It also meant that I couldn't check in here as I was dog tired much of the time.
I eventually moved in in August and am looking forward to painting and decorating in the summer (an image NSK rooted in my mind), after I get a new boiler sorted.
I can't say that I'm debt free at the moment as I racked up some CC debts due to buying new appliances, going on holiday and moving costs. But nevertheless, thanks for this thread and all who sail in her!!!!

:j:j:j GELMC - HELLO!!!! :j:j:j
I have thought of you MANY times and tried searching for you on the website alphabetically and couldn't see you!!! I am SO HAPPY that you have got your little house! This is AMAZING news! Yes many capital lettering happening here but this is terrific! Oh my - I am so happy now!!!
Oh yes - painting that house with the windows open. Relaxing with a nice glass of something admiring your own hard work! So proud! And so happy for you!
I am on the other hand going travelling... another thread already started for that!!!
Maybe those added CC debts could see you join us in March's challenge..??:j:j:j
Thank you for your kind words also.....“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Thanks NSK!!!!!
What's the link to your other thread? I'd love to take a look.
I'm sure I could have my arm twisted plus it'll make me address what I do actually owe on CCs. The next step is to stop spending on crap and start getting things in order financially so I can start renovating this place - new kitchen ahoy! I have a plan to redesign it, put in a dining area, French doors and decking.0 -

Have returned from town and have spent a bit but not too much. Managed to get the guides t shirt for £12 which is £1 less than the place I tried at the weekend which didn't have the right size. £1.50 spent in Thorntons on a toffee slab and £1.18 on two cards. DD spent £11.87 of her own money on 2 tops and a pair of heavily reduced boots, she is very happy. I buy the things she needs and she buys the things she wants and can afford.
My grocery shop will be delivered today and is the last one from my February spend, it was a 5 week month for groceries for us but next month will be 4 weeks. We should have still come in well under budget and I will update my totals when it arrives.

DH's birthday tomorrow - deliveries have been wrapped - he wanted the bits to build an internet radio to attach to his raspberry Pi - the plan is to turn it into a media centre - if you understand that then you are impressed - if you didnt dont worry - after twelve years marriage techy speak kinda gets you by osmosis
Totals updated - food slightly over due to buying back some of the unused grub for church breakie - will be part of the March menu so not so bad. Petrol also over - forgot the trip to essex when i did the budget - that would be £100 of it!
Need to pick up some eggs and post a parcel but trying to keep the last 5 days CHEAP!!
Right on we go - Kat - fab news about your fella
Love to all - LAGL xx
:rotfl: ha ha LAGL :rotfl:. I understand you completely! I also have 12 years of geek speak osmosis under my belt, and am an honorary geek with the IT guys at work! My DH also got a raspberry pi recently, tho he built our multi media recorder many moons ago using an old IBM base unit! Hope your DH has fun!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Hehe Applemuncher
Sure DH will have fun - his Pi is in a black box case - if its going in the front room then that was his only option - his dad (another geek speak guru) is still emotionally scarred by this - when he gets it all working I suspect that the budget will be hit by the cost of a Naz (dont know how you spell it) drive.... Whats your DH planning with his Pi?

Afternoon.
Proud to say I paid a whack off the credit card yesterday. I have bought myself a new stand mixer today though because
1. I had birthday money to go towards it
2. It was an extremely bargainis deal
3. I got discount from work off it
4. My current one (third one in a year as the first one kept cutting out, the second didn't work at all so they sent me a third, you can't the dough hook off this one either) is struggling with the amount I use it
So in reality it cost me about £60. And it is an investment, hopefully it will last a lifetime (it's not a kitchen aid, it was a load less money than that)
Shopping comes tomorrow so tomorrow won't be SF but hopefully wednesday, Thursday, Friday will be.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
LAGL, I think DH's Pi is still in its cardboard box - from Christmas! He'd wanted it for months, but just seems content to have acquired it. I think he comes from Ferengi (sp?) bloodlines! Now there's a trekky reference - hope you understand that one. And that's not one I've absorbed since marriage; blame my MUM for that one.
Don't know what hie plans for it are. He seems to spend all his time doing PC / gizmo stuff for other people and his own projects are on the shelf gathering dust.
Anyhows, an NSD for me as I've DD at home. She's had much less painkiller today and has been pottering round the garden with me. She got rather mucky as she had a bowl of soapy water to scrub the plant pots with, so she's finally consented to changing the vest she's had on since Fri. I understand her reluctance as no-one likes pain, and we didn't know if taking off the sling would hurt. It didn't, fortunately. And she may, just may, have a bath later...
I've kept details of my spends that fall under the 'other' category this month, and am looking forward to analysing them later. As well as how much I spend on food from different sources. The cupboards are fairly full now, so hoping to keep March's budget the same - or less!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0
