Morning all. I feel a lot more positive today :) I hope all those that are feeling the effects of the bad weather are ok.

Tea lover-Well done on passing your driving test.

I cannot believe the cheek of Natwest! I cleared their credit card well within the due date, but yet on online banking it says £1.67 in interest was applied a couple of days ago and that's my balance  There was nothing to apply interest too though, as the card was cleared! Am I missing something? Anyway rant over.

Kat I know what you mean about feeling unattractive at work re clothes. In our office you would think it was the Paris runway rather than what it actually is! I felt so grubby (for my own standards, which dramatically slipped after having to get up at silly o'clock each morning, to take youngest to nursery). I have finally got some new bits, although I constantly live in my uggs as my tootsies are always cold-so kind of defeats the object :rotfl:

Due to me having a bit of a melt down, in all honesty, I have no idea how many NSD's I have, but have not spent much. Exercise, more or less on target, decluttering started but not finished by a long chalk. I always take lunch to work unless a major calimity happens, so that's ok too.

Good luck everyone and have a fantastic day :)

Tea lover - very well done on passing your driving test.

traveller - that has happened with interest charges to me before, it was with barclaycard I think, they applied interest after I paid everything off, I paid that amount off too and then recently I transferred a balance to that card and I was in credit. We trust them to get it right but it makes you wonder if we are paying the right amount in interest. I for one don't know the formula to work it out.

I am hoping for a SFD today, weather looks a bit iffy but hopefully we can go for a walk with the dog after DD has been riding.

Ok hands up! Big fail February for me!
Bought the coat for DD and some socks for me and both kids. Due to a very old and too big bra I went and got bravissimoed, bought two bras:eek:

I know, I know, naughty GSR BUT I've been putting it off for ages, mainly cos there is never an opportunity when I don't have the small people, in fact the last time I went was when I was 6 months pregnant  so a big spendy day BUT all needed.

The rest of the week will be low key and only one spend day when I do some shopping and sort all the money pots out and put petrol in the car.

Oh and today will be SFD

To be fair, when you have family, you have to be flexible :) Imagine the expense if you hadn't bought that coat now, later  And as for bras-a definite must! Some things you just cannot put off! You've done well! :T

    Good morning everyone.

Yesterday was a spend-free day which takes me up to the magic 15!!
    :j

We have tidied the house and gone through the living room cupboards... so a bit of decluttering.
    :)

It looks like I might get to pay off a wee bit extra from my credit card as we have just found out that I can pay the credit card directly from the local bank. Really looking forward to sorting this out.
    :D

Hugs to everyone. Not long to go now.

  • Good morning fellow Febbers, not long to go now with this month. Having a lazy Sunday here, just had agirlcalledjack's apple pancakes - yum- and lazing about reading before having a clean round this afternoon then a swim and steam. It will be a SFD and an exercise day, but I won't add up the totals till it's in the bag!

SarahB1989 I agree with Thrifty in that having SFDs makes you reassess your spending habits and prevents impulse buys and 'pick me up' buys and any emotional or situational spending. It also makes you plan ahead! Food wise it makes you have meal plans which you need to stick to because that is the food that's in the house, rather than thinking I can't be bothered to cook that, or I don't fancy such and such tonight, and then getting more expensive convenience food, or a take away or whatever. In essence it stops all UNNECESSARY spending!

It helps if you know that the bills etc don't count as spends, and we all accept we don't always make the total at the end of the month, but it's a mindful and concious way to watch the pennies so the pounds look after themselves. Knowing you have to come here at the end of the day and 'fess up to that new dress, or that mars bar, or that coffee at starbucks just makes you think 'do I need it?' and for the competitive or rule followers amongst us, it makes us unwilling to break a SFD!

I guess it won't work for all, but it's worth a go! Good luck...

    Hullo peeps :D

Hope you are all well and good..

I have fallen off the radar over the last couple of weeks so I thought I would do a quick check in now as Im back in work tomorrow and therell be no check ins 'til mid week!

So! Although I put money aside into savings last month and that remains untouched, I am back in debt again being £280 overdrawn :( I got off to a good start and to celebrate my first month of having expendible income post debt freedom, I treated my lovable step cat to 7 weeks worth of prescription diet and chews to hide her meds in, costing £80.. I made a £20 food bank donation after being a little hit and miss with this throughout the challenges.. £137 has been spent on fuel which includes a trip home to visit family and also filling the tank up last night which will last well into March, so next month's fuel cost should be minimal..

I spent £70 on a car service while at home which was done by my dad's mechanic mate and saved me £100 :A He also said that he will put my car through its MOT in June so I am definitely sticking with my trusty, loyal charabanc for another year and Will Not go mooching through the auto trader site! :o

I also spent £50 at the dentist last week for a check up and x rays which highlighted that an old crown has fractured and will need replacing which will set me back £1100

So on top of repaying the overdraft and paying for dental treatment next month, I also need to pay a £300 mortgage fee. I managed to secure a good 2 year fixed rate mortgage deal with the bank last week and make a decent saving. However, I have decided to use that sum to overpay the mortgage as it will shave 4 years off the length of the mortgage and when the fixed rate period ends, the amount I will need to remortgage will be a lot less.

So its been spend, spend, spend here with more spend, spend, spend to come.. but it's not through being spendthrift, these things are unavoidable and have to be done :( The only treats I have got for myself this month have been a Mucky D (a one off honest!), a coffee and a fat ball feeder with fat balls for the birds :o

Anyhoo, Im orf to catch up with the thread..

Ooh and Kat, yes I do have a bike licence and used to ride around on an SV650 which was great fun  I will get another bike one day but I'll keep using my £400 car for now while its in good health.. It has saved me a lot of money over the years and makes economic sense for the time being :p

:) Thank you for all the well wishes for dd :). She has had a couple of good nights and is being dosed up every 2 hours. She was insistent that we go to kids klub, and as it was a small one today with only the church kids, then I said we'd go. She was v pale and wobbly, and felt left out as she couldn't run around and join in. But she lasted the whole time there, and has made her realise what it'll be like at school.

Have decided to keep her off til at least weds. I don't think the school would want her before that! And she's still being dosed up and the arm/shoulder is v tender and being in a class of thirty 6 year olds isn't conducive to not being bumped!

We're back up to the fracture clinic on Tues, so that will be a good indicator of how dd is progressing.

Today should be another NSD. They've been hard to grab this month, but the awareness of spending/not spending is a good experience. And I shall have money left at the end of the month to pop into the savings/mortgage. Result!

  • Had another lovely day today. Went out for a ten mile run this morning soon after getting up, met my mum about three miles in to do the middle bit with her. We took the boys the local theme park again this afternoon (that's three times that week, like to make sure we make the most of the season tickets :D) and just had a lush roast for tea, two pie size portions of left over chicken in tubs for the freezer.

Have done a nice bit of home baking and made up loads of soup so it feels like it has been a nice productive weekend.

Going to miss the SFD target and probably the exercise one as well but hopefully not by too much and will keep trying!
