The joys of being me... worked 12 hours yesterday (very tiring day as we were short-staffed) as a result I have had a pyjama day. Which means that I have had 2 spend-free days!!
    :j

I'm now over a third of the way towards our goal and we are not even at the 10th of the month.

I made fajitas for a second night running which used up some more chicken. I would love to say it was the same roast chicken from the other night but... sadly OH got his mitts on that before I did. However, he took one of our ready to roast tins and made that for Saturday night's tea so he redeemed himself.
We both had a roast dinner, I have had lunch and dinner from it today and there is enough for OH's lunch tomorrow (providing he doesn't have another snack whilst I'm not looking).
    :p

Back on to nightshifts tomorrow night so hopefully some more spend-free days heading our way.
    :)

I am very sorry to hear about your father-in-law iwillsucceed. I hope he gets better soon. I am also so sorry to read about your cat mothernerd, it made me cry as you gave her such a perfect send-off, fussing over her and feeding her.
    Hugs to everyone.

  • Hi all. Sorry to hear people are having a tough time - my thoughts go out to you all. Take it easy and be kind to yourselves x

Up to SFD number 4 now... At the end of a week off <cries> and so back to work tomorrow. Had a semi productive week... Did some batch cooking and cleared a load of stuff I'd been meaning to sort.

Being without a computer is a pain and i realise now how much i used it every day. Apologies for infrequent and short check ins.

    Have a good week everyone!

    Good MORNING! :)

Sorry for my absense over the weekend. It's been busy and I have been super tired! I see there might be some hard times that I have missed reading about so don't think I have forgotten you I just haven't read all the posts yet but I intend to do that asap.

So the most important things - think I blew my food budget on Saturday. I am just exhauseted with all this walking (32.5 miles last week although I know some of you do that anyway without bleeting like me:o) and I picked up some foody bits on Friday although can NEVER seem to pace myself with the amount of tins I pick up. Trudged home with it all and vowed never to dot it again.

SO went with the landlord on Saturday and bought more so I am quids in for a few weeks at least. Mainly necause my "Spend £20 and get £3 off" voucher was running out and I knew there were bits I needed. Then got a "£4 off your next purchase" voucher Result. Can you believe mangos are 59p in Lidls..??? I got four! :o

Saturday saw the making of apple muffins and cornbread for me and a lemon drizzle for LL... then bed.. he doesn't have a dish washer.... #groan.

Sunday I spent at work and was up at 0500 (should technically never happen on a Sunday) and cooked some more chilli beans last night which made 5 portions for the week. What a thrill I am.

.........."Whilst attempting to get tinned toms off my shelf that I placed there after Sat night's epic shopping trip I banged my head unexpectedly off the hob extractor, fell backwards due to the (shock/pain./surprise) with the sink breaking my fall but catching my leg on a cupboard door handle, ripping my fave pj bottoms and leaving a massive bruise on my leg. Although I narrowly missed taking the boiling hot pan of chilli down on top of me"... Whoopsie!!! To say I am a little tired is an understatement.....

I also left my make-up bag at my friends house on Saturday and had to go to work with minimal slap. Never good. But I did manage to dye and cut my hair last night AND paint my nails. We SHALL BE GLAMOROUS!

Then I missed the train this morning by 30 seconds and waited another 25 minutes in the freezing cold.Mondays annoy me...

Right - I'm gonna read all your posts. Yesterday was an SFD for me so I think I might actually be at 6 now but need to count them all.

EDIT ; I Will Succeed - stay with us. Keep us updated. Post when you want and obviously don't worry about the rules. Really hope FIL gets better. Big hugs from your MSE family!"

Will join in the introductions, I'm 28 live in NI with my fella of 11 yrs and our 3 girls, age 9, 6 and nearly 2. Currently renting our house but we have a plot of land nearby that we want to build on so that's why I'm wanting to save. Hubby builds log cabins for a living so that is what we would like to build on the land and I want to grow our own veg and have chickens etc :D

HELLO! To amnother Norn Iron Girly!!!:wave::wave:

Join the ranks with me and Siouxsie32..:p...This is what I did back home. Me and my Da bought a 1/2 acre beside their house. One to stop people building directly beside us and another to stop any possibility of fracking on our doorstep. I am trying to convince Pa that a holiday home would go down a treat. He is not convinced but if I lived over there I would turn into a massive business... I might drop you a line for a holiday home quote someday.. :T

Very excited for your house building adventure!!

Yes Kat you were right about the house buying. I started saving when I got my first part-time job at 15.

..........even though one week my shopping was one cabbage, one onion, one lemon.....

The house had been boarded up for 11 years. I bought a shell, but it was a very solid little shell.

I tend to accept my son's verdict which is generally that I haven't done much with my life - although DS3's friends think I am awesome (for a mother).

My favourite parts from your post.

However I am sorry about your puddy-tat. She had a long life and died peacefully in her sleep.. it made me sad reading it but nice to hear what you did for her..

Regarding your house-saving you are amazing. This is fortitude, strenght, intelligence and determination rolled into once awesome mother. Don't listen to your son although I am hoping he says it in jest... If I were to do things again I would not have gone to Uni. I would have started working straught away and bought a little place. BUt I am going to use you as my model for when I finally start saving for a home.

Now tell me more about this food? Cabbage a lemon and and onion?

I got through it though, and I should get a decent amount of money for it. I'm signing up for more next Sunday. It all helps and adds up.

Very true. Mine was 0700-1500 yesterday and I have a 1500-2300 next week and a 2300-0700 the weekend after. That should land me a further few bob. :p

Fmess - I used to think soup was complicated too, it is super easy as you will find out, it is worth investing in one of the cheap stick blenders if you can as part blending just thickens things up a bit, here is my recipe for Mexican Bean Soup:

diced peppers x 2, finely sliced onion and finely chopped garlic, sweat in a bit of oil till soft.
Stir in chilli powder, cumin and coriander (all dried) to suit your tastes and cook for another minute.
Add tin chopped tomatoes, kidney beans, 2 x stock cubes (chicken or veg) and water, simmer for an hour.

You can leave it chunky or blast with a stick blender 3/4 times to thicken.

I make veg soup then add cooked, shredded chicken and milk at the end for Cream of Chicken & Veg soup.

Tiptoes - I know what you mean about leaving the consumerism behind. I do find it harder with having children though. It obviously can be done but when you haven't been like that they find it hard to adjust and there is so much peer pressure on them even very young children about what they have and haven't got and where they go on holiday etc. So many parents go waaaay overboard.

Missy - hope you start to feel better soon.

Today will be a spendy day as I will be doing the grocery shop (well having it delivered).
