I must be a golden oldie.I'm 55 and live alone, now both sons have fled the nest.
Got a lovely 10 month old Grandson who lives 5 minutes away and I get to see regularly. There's another baby due in April.
I live in Derbyshire and got my own house (mortgaged) and I've got a cat and two chickens (oh and a stray that's adopted me and lives in the rabbit hutch).
I'm doing OK with the spending this month and today is SFD 4.
Went and did a big shop at Aldi on Tuesday and got £5 off with a voucher that a lady gave me.
Have been tidying my polytunnel up today, as it's full of bits of wood that I've now chopped for the woodburner. Got homemade soup and bread for tea and then planning catching up on some TV witha glass of homemade cider. I daren't have too much as I've got my Grandson in the morning and he's started crawling now. I'll need to have my wits about me then.
Hope everyone gets back to good health soon.NSK Zombie # SFD 7/15 Food Bank £0/£5

Almost right... I'm a girl with long dirty blonde hair with a... Homely kinda face.
Housey story:
We came into some money after a relative died. My brother was happily living at home (planning to move out when my parents did).
I was working full time in a nursing home and making £700 a month. House came on the market at £40k so I spoke to my dad and we decided to buy it. My dad contributed £10k and it is agreed that he owns 25% of my house (and still does).
I am now in my new house but my old house is where my parents live now. My brother even moved into it for a few years too so the whole family have lived there!!
Spend-free day number 4 today and I am claiming it now.

Hope everyone is doing well.Mortgage: £0/£80,329.91

Spend Day today.
Went to sainsbos. No food bank collection so that will have to wait for a tescimos trip. Spent £53.65 but I think that is pretty much all I need for the rest of the month. Bought Diesel yesterday but I can't remember how much it was. To avoid the temptation of a fizzy drink and some snacks for a little drive I paid at the pump, and then because it was raining I didn't get a receipt. Waiting for it to show up on my banking app.
Also just ordered two people's birthday presents from Amazon. I've reduced the amount I would normally spend on them.
Switched my bank account today. Not getting £100 like a lot of you but I did it to get better terms on my mortgage. I have also just worked out that if I shuffle a bit of money I can get £75 a month for nothing. Will let you know if this is right when it is all set up. Haven't done a full switch because my DD's are eratic. Getting paid every four weeks it makes no difference when they go out, the money has to be there for the whole period.
Going to gradually switch everything else over when the new account is up and running.
As for all the shares, it's nice being able to add to the pictures. As for me, I am 35, lesbian, living just outside of London and currently in a flat but watch this space on that one!Feb NST #4

Time to join in with the zombie 'show and tell'. I'm 45, married, have a 6 yr old dd, and 3 stepkids in Canada (married), Aus and New Z (both working for a year or 2). Pretty wide apart, but then the part of London I'm in is totally NOT conducive to staying in! It's where north-east Surrey meets north-west Kent meets the black hole of southerh greater London. Yuk!!! I'm a born northener, and not a southerner by choice, but have become decidedly soft in my time down here! We live in a mid terrace and our debt is the mortgage.
NSD 3 only, tho grain and sugar free both up to 6. Am going to try to make it to the 14th with them. Exercise is on target...so far!
Dh going out tonight so I've already turned the thermostat down! I plan to get on with my knitting whilst watching Father Brown whilst wrapped in a blanket! And, of course, dd will go straight to sleep :rotfl:.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Hi All,
First things first - I am 50 living with partner, not married yet but hope to be in the near future. We have 3 adult children between us, 2 his 1 mine. Both girls have moved out and boy lives with OH's ex so the household consists of OH, me, 5 dogs, 3 chickens and a parrot. So a nice peaceful house.....NOT :rotfl:
We live in Berkshire but would love to move somewhere with a bit more land for the animals. That might need to wait for a little while though :rotfl:
Back to the challenge.

Declutter 3/28 although I am planning on clearing the dressing table tonight so hopefully up to 4/28 by tonight.
Managed to avoid the Zombies so far this month but still being vigilant :T
Hope every one has a Good Friday. It's nearly the weekend :j :j

A non spending day for me - but a bit of non everything day. Didn't manage to go for a walk, still feeling wiped out from the past couple of days + cat is not well. Down side to down shifting a) the cat loves the food I found for her and is wolfing it down b) I can't cope with the end product (explosive puddles of the stuff. She gets like this sometimes. She is very old and has always been greedy (she is the last of 4 cats, 3 from the same litter). I have to feed her small amounts during the day otherwise she gobbles it straight down, then her little stomach cant't cope and it comes back, undigested. For the past 3 years she has been having bouts where everything comes out one end or the other (very wearing to get out of bed at six in the morning and step in a puddle) then I have to mess with her diet until it levels out. The vet said to give her chicken and fish (she's gone off fish) which I did in the microwave but this can get very expensive (and we had a nearly a year without a microwave, as I was training DS3 to cook his own curry from scratch rather than microwaving the ones I had already put in the freezer) so I try to find a combination of ready food she likes.
We were doing quite well on a combination of supermarket own brand pouches and some trays plus she got scraps and bones when I cooked the turkey, lamb and beef (cooked sliced and packaged) in the month before Christmas and bits of raw meat when I did stews and curries. I was worried before Christmas as she went off the trays and I thought she was only licking the the jelly part of the pouch food (she's 18, I have already had the what happens if conversation with DS2 - technically she is his cat). Basically I couldn't face having the She's going to the vet and might not be coming back conversation with him before Christmas as he was ill and struggling to keep working and paying his bills, so I kept feeding her scraps of whatever she would eat. DS3 caught me ripping up a salmon fillet for her but I explained it was a yellow sticker one and it had been in the freezer for some time.
So I've used a full kitchen roll in the last two days (good job I cleared out the little bedroom and was already going through all the old bedding to see which would make cleaning and painting rags for the next assault on the house. Today I opened her a tin of tuna only to find it was the crab meat I bought as a treat (put it in the fridge), reached for another tin or tuna then realised the sardines I bought were a cheaper option and I have taken a frozen chicken breast out to microwave for later(should do next two days). So far no emissions today although she does keep whining piteously.
Right so I bought my first house when I was 23, moved in at 24 (had a bathroom put in and the re-wiring and only lived upstairs at first -stone flag floor had been broken up by vandals) and finished paying for it at 25. Intended living alone - was going to wear hats and gloves and garden.
Unfortunately met my (now ex-)husband. Wanted to just be friends - he clung like a leech and glared at all my friends until they went away. Had definitely decided to leave him and found out I was pregnant (my grandmother was ill in hospital for 8 weeks before dying and I only found out after she died). Wanted to keep the baby but was fine with being alone. He said he wanted the baby as well (was telling lies).
My sewing/reading room became the baby's room, one son became 3, husband went working away and put all our money in slot machines. I
divorced him when the youngest was 3 years old, thankfully kept my house as it was still only in my name. Brought up the boys on my own doing a patchwork of jobs while he boasted about earning £2000 a month and not paying a penny maintenance. (Sorry I am not really bitter and twisted just his endless capacity for trying to mess up my life gets to me sometimes).
I bought this 4 bed semi-detached after my brother died 7 years ago. DS2 lives in my old house. Only me and DS3 + cat here now and his course finishes this year so DESPERATE TO DOWNSIZE. Some credit card debts (mainly as a result of bailing out DS1 and DS2 during their university years).it has been one disaster after another since we moved here. DS1 and his then girlfriend were flooded out of the cottage they were renting (half their clothing and most of their textbooks were destroyed) and moved in a month after we came here (she moved out, he moved out, nearly 2 years before the last of their furnishings left). DS3 had a friend living with us for nearly 2 years and we had two homeless kids living with us for most of a year (was originally for 3 days) and at weekends we had up to 11 people staying (dealt with runaways/abuse victims/self-harmers/pregnant girls/ mental health problems/ written benefits letters - tried to get everyone into/ back to full time education or at least to their appointments on time). In the end DS3 put a stop to it as my health deteriorated as I was always sorting out other people's problems.
Plan is that mum will come and live with me if/when anything happens to her partner (he has dementia and a number of other health issues and doesn't follow the correct diet and sulks if she tries to give him healthy stuff). She doesn't want to live here and I had vetoed the possibility of buying his house and living there - I said it was a deathtrap and then she fell down the stairs in February (still having problems with her wrist and neck). DS1 should be moving into rented house with girlfriend week on Saturday.
Spent all my money on a damp-proof course in October (boring but necessary). Discovered an indoor swimming pool under the floorboards and then a leak under the bath brought down half the kitchen ceiling (took any emergency money I had). Spent eight weeks painting all the downstairs with special new plaster paint, started with skirtings and ceilings. Used up all the old bits of paint to touch up as much as possible.
Scraped together enough money (2 ebay lots (doors + some units) + 4 wall cupboards that never got put up at my old house + mr Builder bought the remaining carcasses I needed at trade) and Mr&Mrs Builder and myself put the kitchen units in over a weekend (everything under the worktops was too damp and had to be skipped before the DPC was installed).
When DS1 moves his stuff out (currently taking up 2 bedrooms) I have 3 more bedrooms to paint (one is only the ceiling and floor). If I can scrape up a bit of money from somewhere a friend of DS3's will come for the weekend and sort out the attic stairs. Then there is only the driveway and garden (growing as much as I can myself) to make presentable. If I sell the house there should be enough to buy a smaller house that mum and I can agree on and pay off my debts but as there is no knowing how long that will take I need to keep juggling and paying off as much debt as I can. Very small earnings from self-employment.
Sorry this is a bit of a saga - oh and I am 56 and the boys are 28, 26 and 23 (but they are all going up one in the next 2 months) and I am single (been married once and it was once too much). Oh and I've never had a mortgage because my earnings were too low/ too insecure.
