Indeed Starnac - always worth checking!! :eek:
(but it probably was just me, don't want to be casting aspersions:rotfl: )
With all this insurance-related stuff, I just remembered I'm visiting my friend in Belgium in 3 weeks :j :j and don't yet have travel insurance...
Well, I do now£3.25, and I went through Quidco to do the comparison site thing so I should get a whole 55p back :money:
:rotfl: Couldn't manage cashback on the policy sadly (and by that point I'd got bored of looking) but it's a start! :rotfl:

not bad at all! although I will be out of the country for less than 24 hour so I wouldn't expect to pay too much :rotfl:
Nice day of family visiting, although I was hoping to visit my nan, but she was taken into hospital last nightShe's on an acute ward with possibly kidney failure
Didn't go to the hospital for various reasons but wishing I had now
She's got Alzheimer's too so she's not having a great time anyway. Plenty of others visiting but wish I'd not been put off by weird family politics type stuff.
Ah well.0 -
Well it looks like I'm back over the hills and visiting today instead
They're trying to flush out nan's kidneys but only real option is dialysis, and they won't do that because of other health problems. They've said to visit as soon as we can, and we can go outside visiting hours. Just stuffing in some breakfast then I'll set off.
Estate agent cancelled - they don't do weekends and only do one evening which is booked this week, so rescheduled for next Thursday after work. I'm going to resent this not-having-Fridays-off business, I can tell! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Right, best get going. Done far too much driving lately!0 -

* Mortgage fees (plus possible booking fee) = up to £2500 (can add to mortgage, but then you pay interest on it too)
* Valuation fee = £300-400
* Surveys = £400-700 (advises budgetting for 2-3) = £800-£2100
* Mortgage broker = anything from £0 to £500
* Stamp duty = £1500-5000 depending on cost of new house
* Conveyancing fee = £500-£1000
* Land registry fee = Likely £300
* Removal costs - got a couple of pals with big vans so MAY do most of this ourselves, but will budget £300
GRAND TOTAL: £3700-£12,100 :eek::eek::eek:
Stamp duty - Handy Calculator Thingy - and unless your top budget is a LOT higher than I was thinking it was you won't be anywhere near the 5k mark... Also Land Reg fee - assuming your solicitor does it electronically then it should be £135 at your price-band level. Most are now submitting electronically.
So sorry to hear about your Nan - and well done for ignoring the family political stuff and going to visit anyway. Hope it wasn't too painful/traumatic and that they can find a way forward for her.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Nan seems as ok as can be expected, and is wavering up and down each minute practically - one minute she's fine and chatting, the next she's in pain, the next the nurse is asking her where the pain is and she's saying she doesn't have any, then she's fine again and saying she's had her appendix out and will be fine to go home tomorrow. So rather exhausting... Seems the prognosis may not be quite as dire as first expected - yesterday they said kidney failure and no hope of dialysis, today they're saying 'acute kidney injury which she seems to be recovering from' and saying she might be home at some point, although they don't know how long...
So who knows.
Some family-related nonsense sadly, which may have led to an irretrievably broken relationship (not with me) but it was nice to see auntie I've not seen for 20 years...
Anyway, home now, and trying to get head out of 'pesky family' and 'enough driving already' mode into 'let's relax a bit before the job starts tomorrow' mode :eek:
New phone arrived :j :j but for some bizarre reason it won't import my contacts properly so I only have half my phone numbers :eek: I can see myself resorting to entering them all by hand at this rate! :eek: Mind you, I suppose I won't have tooooo much to do at work tomorrow... :rotfl:
EH - that stamp duty figure was indeed right - a vague number taken from Martin's calculator - and I've just checked the one you linked to and it goes up even more! :eek: Our budget has indeed increased rather drastically with my new job... Of course it's all guesswork at the minute - I had to cancel the house valuation today so still don't know what we'd get for this, and I'll wait til I've got that figure and at least one payslip from new job before ringing the bank, so I'm going on Martin's (again vague) calculator of how much we'd potentially be able to afford. Of course, we hopefully won't need to go that high! :eek: but trying to budget for all eventualities!
Anyway, going to hop in a bath and ignore phone-related nonsense for now...0 -
Sorry to hear about your nan. Hope it is just something small and she can come home when better. Family politics are a nightmare. Glad you ignored them and went regardless.
Good luck for your new job. Shame you had to cancel valuation but at least you've got a bit more time to flylady nowGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
